Most shared hosts will offer

Most shared hosts will offer you something like phpmyadmin so that you can manipulate the database.

Alternatively you might try running SQL inside PHP scripts... ("CREATE TABLE ....")

I'm a bit confused - it sounds like you need to learn an awful lot of things. I don't think I can help in just a few comments.

Once you create your SQL

Once you create your SQL script in notepad you just copy the text, paste it in MyPHPAdmin and click 'Go'.
That will create your tables for you. So you don't have to upload any file.

To run the script:
Visit PHPMyAdmin,
Click on the SQL tab (at the top)
Paste the text
Click Go

Hopefully this helps you?

Host too limited

Sorry guys, I want to highlight 4 different thoughts on this but as briefly as possible:

  1. Login into your drupal account and select "Reports -> Status report". It should give you an idea what database is being used by your Drupal site. (I don't think Drupal can be installed without an associated database.)

  2. If your site host is too limited AND you have a laptop with >1GB RAM and >160GB HDD you could use VirtualBox to setup your very own LAMP/Drupal server. I've done this about 6 different ways over the last few weeks using Ubuntu, not as difficult as it sounds. I've even put this setup on a Msi Wind u135dx! You can then play with Drupal, modules and the database all you like. Your laptop's browser is used as the client.

  3. Are you trying to demonstrate the power of Drupal and its modules or lower-level website stuff using PHP/SQL or, maybe, a bit of both? Normal Drupal process is: Capture user input using a form -> store it in the database -> present it on a new page (and way-way more...). (For an example, thats how this forum thread works.)

  4. Bit of a blunt question but why have you arrived at this approach? Maybe rethink the problem - there may be a better solution, for example, could state a simple problem like this.:

* Determine users CD/DVD collection genres. [Webform module does this]
* Store their data in the database [Drupal + webform module should just do this]
* Summarise data on web page/report/email [is there a module that does this; do I have to write my own?]

If you answered "yes" to that very last question, then I agree with alexmc, you've set yourself an awful lot to learn.

Hope there are a few bits in there that are useful - keep us informed of your progress.

help me change drupal theme

i have tried to change drupal 7 theme using Artisteer but nothing works.
help me from here please

I am not familiar with

I am not familiar with Aristeer, but from the look of the Aristeer website, it probably creates a Drupal 6 theme. I'd have a look here to see what needs changing in order to convert your theme to Drupal 7 (or alternately, raise this issue with Aristeer?).

so, does it mean i have to use Drupal 6 with Artisteer for it to work?
is there any other better than drupal that can create complete site?

Artisteer 2.6 supports D7

Andy_Read's picture

I only started using Artisteer a few months ago, so I'm no expert and I've only created D6 sites so far and had Artisteer 2.5 installed. I've just checked and I was able to download a free update to Artisteer 2.6, which I've just installed and under the Export menu it has options for Drupal 7 or Drupal 5/6. I don't remember if the previous 2.5 version of Artisteer had such an option.

Transforming a D6 theme to a D7 theme is not too hard if you're ok with cutting up the page.tpl.php file to separate out the real page content from the html document 'wrapper', but obviously if you're able to get the Artisteer 2.6 update that should make the job much easier!
