Any chance of a meeting for April? I still have yet to make one but have more time this month...

How about May?

jhodgdon's picture

We did decide to move to Spokane, and will be moving at the end of April. How about a meeting in May?

I'm not sure what the etiquette in Spokane is -- should Myke or I just pick a date, time, and place and that will make a meeting happen, or is there an established pattern?

How about May 11?

jhodgdon's picture

I'm here in Spokane!

So I looked at the past history for this group, and it looks like there isn't a consistent day of the week for meetings.

Given that no one else is making any concrete proposals: I'd like to propose a date of Wed May 11 for the next meeting. It looks like the meetings have been:

Time: 5pm - 6pm

Rocket Bakery
24 W Main Ave
Spokane, WA 99201

I'm way out in the Valley (almost in Idaho actually), but I'm OK with going into downtown for the meeting.

So, is anyone but me and maybe Myke interested in meeting? Myke: does this proposed date/time work for you? If not, can you suggest another time? What about the place -- where are you located?

Thoughts? If at least one or two other people want to meet that day (and post comments here accordingly), I'll post an Event so we can make it happen...

Every meeting so far, but the

Every meeting so far, but the one I couldn't attend was during the week. We should try to have a meeting on a Saturday! :)

Saturday not for me...

jhodgdon's picture

For me, Drupal is work (I'm a self-employed full-time Drupaler), and I don't work on Saturdays. Even evenings are a stretch... but maybe someone else would prefer a Saturday meeting, i don't know. Just not for me!

I'm very interested, but...

I have had to ditch the last two meetings that we've tried to plan. My work schedule can be unpredictable. All I can say is that I'll mark my calendar. Hope I get to make it.

Welcome!!

Welcome to Spokane Jennifer! I too live in the Valley.

I think I could make a meeting, just need a good heads up on schedule. Unfortunately I've taken a fairly long sabbatical away from working with DRPL. I hope to get back in the mix real soon, just have other pressing things going on.

Anyways, looking forward to enhancing my skill set with working in drupal and getting to meet other Spokedruplers soon.

Meeting place in Valley?

jhodgdon's picture

It doesn't look like there are too many people who've expressed an interest in coming (yet)... as two of us are in the Valley, maybe we should meet out on that end of town instead of downtown? I obviously don't know Spokane specifics much yet -- any ideas for a good venue in the Valley?

Hi Jennifer, welcome to

Hi Jennifer, welcome to Spokane! Seems like most of us live in Spokane Valley as I do too. One of the first meetups I tried to get together was held at the Wake Up Call in the valley (1106 North Pines, Spokane Valley, WA). That was a decent spot but wasn't very large but it did have wifi access and decent seating. If we can find someone else that would be great though.

The meetups have been very sporadic as we have been trying to get them organized every month but as you can see haven't had much success. We typically had a turn out of 2-4 people so we are still a very small group.

I work with Drupal full-time from home so anytime in the evening or late afternoon is fine but weekends meetups aren't something I would attend.

Sorry and Welcome Jennifer!

Sorry I have not entered in this conversation yet. As long as I have a couple weeks heads up on the meeting time date and location. I can go. TBH I am sure this same approach would be the best for everyone. After all, not everyone will ever be able to make it no matter how you schedule it. If you want more than the average number of people to show, put some incentive ($50 drawing)... As for good venues. I would say choose a good coffee shop (usually has internet). Choose a time. 5,6,7:pm is usually good especially for people that have other jobs. Friday or some time in the middle of the week is often best too because people will less likely be on some sort excursion. I am in Idaho. If next Wed the 11th is the time I will do my best to make it.

MEETING SCHEDULED:
Day: May 11th, 2011
Time: 5pm - 6pm

facebook group

marshallmoore's picture

In case anyone doesn't know about this, there is a Spokane Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=128010053881556

Great!

jhodgdon's picture

It looks like several people can make it, so I set this up as an Event at http://groups.drupal.org/node/147709
See you all on Wednesday, I hope!

RE: Facebook -- can I respectfully suggest that we keep discussions on groups.drupal.org instead? The other local Drupal groups around the world all use groups.drupal.org, which is under control of the Drupal Association rather than a for-profit corporation with questionable policies. I think it is great that there is a Facebook page, in case people new to Drupal don't know about groups.drupal.org yet, but I think it would be good to direct anyone that finds the page to groups.drupal.org if they start a discussion, where they can also find topic-oriented groups, etc., and they will be brought into the Drupal community. Just a thought!

about Facebook

marshallmoore's picture

Yeah, that's fine. At the time that the FB group was started, this site group was being used very little. I saw Facebook as a good alternative because everyone is already logged in to it all the time. But it looks like this site is getting more attention now so that's cool.
