Save the date! On Friday, May 6, Droplabs is kicking into open beta and throwing what's shaping up to be an extraordinary event, in conjunction with Toyshoppe Systems, another company at Big Art Labs. All of Big Art will turn out, so we thought it would be a great opportunity for the Drupal community to mingle with the Big Art community at the beginning of Drupal's first hacker / co-working space.
It's potluck barbecue, with a great big bonfire, so bring something to throw on the grill, something to drink, and something to munch on. Evenings have been a bit cool, so unless you're super warm blooded, you might find that you need a jacket.
Droplabs' open beta is just that: we're opening up to the community, and not charging until we officially launch in June. We want to give you an opportunity to try it out for free and see how you use it, tell us what you want or don't want, and generally feel free to hang out as much or as little as you want. You know, open beta. Bring your laptop. Show up. Use the space. Interact with your fellow Drupaleros and see how much joy you can bring to your Drupal practice.
We have some furniture, and before we invest in more, we want to see what the needs of the community actually are. (We'll also gladly accept furniture donations.)

Involuntary Signups
I know I volunteered to bring a salad and Booze on the droplabs bulletin board, but you didn't even give me a chance to click this signup button on my own! :)
The furniture building party was fun. The Beta opening party should be a lot more fun.

Supplies for Party
I picked up some supplies at Costco yesterday, 3 half gallons of Jose Cuervo premixed Margaritas and a case of Modelo beer. I don't have an ice chest so I would appreciate someone bringing an ice chest, ice and limes. Will the supplies be safe in the conference room if I bring them to tonights founders meeting?

sheez
absolutely maddening to read these updates! i'm attending a NYC drupal meetup tonight at the 7 World Trade Center (!!) but surely, it won't be nearly as fun as this!
Palebunny - I think this may
Palebunny - I think this may be the first of many events. This place is as unlike the WTC as a place can be and still be about business. There's a giant firepit, and a ton of burner sculptures and art cars. There's this thing called a 'zig' that defies spatial understanding, but is something that very fit people play on.
We'll have more events...bet on it.
Did I mention that the space has been blessed by a real life Star Trek castmember? That's right! Pure geek cred. . .
You'll need to come to the party to find out who!

All for one and one for all
It was great having almost all the founders together building furniture last night.
The place looks great. We have 6 tables and 10 chairs for people to use. Anyone can walk in and start working now, just like Blake and Uzi were doing before we finished building the furniture.

Nice!
Finally, a hackerspace near The Brewery! In my 20 years here this is some of the best news of the neighborhood. If I can swing the time I'll swing by -- looks like a great evening.
Great Discussion on Friday
Richard,
It was great meeting you Friday night, and we had a great discussion.
Hope to see you at more drupal and droplabs events.

Yes, a nice chat indeed.
Yes, a nice chat indeed. Very good to have met you, and the rest of the gang @ Droplabs.
Very much looking forward to the next Pasadena meeting (though with the long drive I would understand if you're note there ).
Had a great time!
Thanks for putting this together everyone who contributed, it was great seeing familiar faces and meeting new people.
The space has a lot of potential, good luck!

Very cool
I really liked the new place - congrats to all the contributors/founders of drop labs!
Thanks to everyone who came
Thanks to everyone who came out! I was really happy to see that everyone who attended also spent time outside at the bonfire and barbecue and got to meet folks from Big Art and The Brewery. This event was a lot of fun and it's just the first of many to come.
Stay tuned for our official opening next month. In the meantime, while we're in "beta" everyone is welcome to come by, work on their projects in the space for free and collaborate with others to help make any expectations around Droplabs a reality.
As always, anyone who's interested can find us at Big Art, on Twitter, Meetup.com/Droplabs, Facebook and on IRC in #droplabs.
Congratulations, it's historic!
Really sorry to have missed the kickoff, but I'm 400 miles to the north. Looking forward to dropping in next time I'm in L.A. Congratulations!

Until we establish official
Until we establish official hours or have a way to signal when we're open, the best thing is to follow @Droplabs on Twitter or call us up at 855-DROPLABS (855-376-7522).
We don't know if we'll have official hours during our open beta period. Up until now we've had near 100% uptime during regular business hours, though.
Who says freemium models are just for websites?
Droplabs has been open now for 6 months or so and it's time to post an update. We've been listening to our members, talking with other coworking / hackerspaces and continuously experimenting with our business model, and today I'm happy to announce our freemium pricing structure:
Prices
While we're in open beta, coworking at Droplabs is free! We offer the following services to help rock your workday:
Extras
Individuals who have been members for a while and wish to be key-holders are welcome to speak with any of the founders. Key-holders have 24x7 access to Droplabs as well as all the above services and extras for a fixed monthly fee.
Space rental
Droplabs is available as a venue space for public and private events with a low security / cleaning fee of $50. If you return the space in the same or better condition, this fee is waived.
Need extra chairs? No problem. We can provide extra chairs for $30 a day.
