Join us on Thursday evening, February 16th at 6:30pm for the latest installment of the Brevard Drupal Meetup Series, 2nd Edition. We'll be having a single discussion as well as continuing work on the Feed Florida 1st Coding for a Cause web site.
- Discussion of "Jay's Top 50 Drupal 7 Modules" (http://www.mediacurrent.com/blog/jays-top-50-drupal-7-modules)
New location! The meetup will take place at The Porcher House in Cocoa Village. We're changing the location for the meetup for this week only, so that we can be assured of good WiFi.
Please use the signup functionality below so we have an idea about how many people to expect.

Top 50 modules
Well, rats!! I just HATE to miss this. We are camping and will go straight from here to FLDC. I hope we'll be able to get a summary somehow - maybe at the next meetup or maybe someone will post the discussion someplace. I have a spreadsheet of modules with recommendations.
Hoping to attend this time!
Yeah, I feel your pain! Ever since they moved the meetup to Thursday nights, I'm having to attempt to change my Thursday nights Tennis matches. I'm still waiting to hear from this week's opponent to see if he'll play tomorrow night. I don't like missing these meetups, either.
postponing Brevard Drupal Meetup Feb 9th?
Hmmm, that's something to consider. Since so many local folks will be gearing up for the Drupal Camp this weekend, maybe this noteworthy topic (or perhaps the entire Thursday event) can be postponed to another meet-up later in the month?
module spreadsheet
I THINK I shared a googledocs spreadsheet with a listing of recommended modules with my Google+ Drupal circle. If you got a notification and can access it please let me know. If you want to be in the Drupal circle also let me know. my google account is
marguerite.ardito@gmail.com
If you like the idea of a shared spreadsheet feel free to update it. I know there is massive module info on drupal.org but I thought maybe a list of the ones people we know use frequently and recommend would be nice to have. But if you think it's just redundant just ignore it.
Please add me.
Please add me to your Drupal circle. My email is cook.lindascook@gmail.com.
Thank you
Module List
Hey Marguerite,
Just looked at your module list. 93 modules! That's some list! Did you put them in any kind of order; say, most frequently used? It looks great, though!
Module list
OK I unhid the priority column (the other 2 are just what we have installed) so now our (Bold Visions or BV) top (1) priority modules are listed first. I also added a column for Group Priority.... feel free to assign your own priorities there - or add more columns for individual's recommendations... not sure how to do it but we can experiment.
Feb 9 Winner's bounce.
This is good because I would not be able to attend on the 16th.
Add me too?

Ooops
Turns out I won't be able to make this meetup on Thursday (2/9/12) - I forgot about a previously scheduled event I'm attended that evening...
If someone else would like to take the reins for this meetup, that would be great. If not, we can reschedule it.
Let me know.
Sorry,
-mike
Cancelling
Let's go ahead and cancel this meeting for the various reasons in the comments above. Once we all recuperate from Florida DrupalCamp 2012, we can reschedule.
Thanks,
-mike
Are you kidding me???
Oh yeah, after I jump through all kinds of hoops to get my Tennis opponent to re-schedule! Lol. Well, I look forward to seeing everyone at the Forida DrupalCamp. I'll probably be there on Friday assisting Andrew's "Hello Drupal" presentation and whatever Don needs help with Mediacurrent's setup.
Bob, if you've got an idea
Bob, if you've got an idea for a topic that you would like to present, we could still have the meetup. If Ryan's isn't available, I will be happy to host a meetup at Radiant Blue.
Jay's Top 50 Modules
I was just looking forward to the Jay's Top 50 Modules presentation that hasn't been given yet. I'll try to make the re-scheduled Cocoa Village meetup, which I hope is next week. Thanks!
Rescheduled!
See the main post above for all the details, but this meetup has been reschedule for this Thursday, 2/16/12 at the Porcher House in Cocoa Village!

Brevard Drupal Meetup
Mike,
Sounds like a good venue, although some people might go through withdrawal from lack of pizza, pasta, and beer.
Chris
topics for Brevard meetup
Top 50 module discussion would be great... I was really disappointed that I couldn't attend Mike's "Designing for Action" presentation and would really really like it if he would consent to presenting it at a meetup. Are we allowed to bring snacks in? I could help out with that if so.
no fair
I'm really disappointed I can't make it.
I won't be able to make it
I won't be able to make it either. I'll be in Gainesville. I was disappointed to miss Drupal Camp also due to illness. I hope to see you all again next time.
I can't believe this!!???
I made all kinds of concessions and arrangements to be able to make it last week, but my Tennis opponent this week is adamant about only playing on Thursday night, as scheduled. I really wanted to make it; especially, for the Top 50 Mondules, and I also worked on the Feed Florida First website during the Coding for a Cause, so really am gonna miss seeing how that comes out. What a bummer! Oh well...........
If anyone can't make it, and
If anyone can't make it, and still wants to participate in the coding for a cause final sprint, I have a suspicion there might still be some things to do.
Thanks for your enthusiasm Bob! You can always work on it from home. In fact, I'll save a task for you if you'd like.
Feed Florida First
Ben,
I was just contacted by my Tennis opponent, and it seems that he now says he can't play on Thursday night. I offered to play Friday night after work, but he says he can't. However, he has the right to find a substitute to play for him, so if he finds a substitute, I will still have to play Thursday night, and if he can't find one, then he has to forfeit. I won't know if he's going to have to forfeit or not until late Thursday afternoon.
I'm looking forward to working on the Feed Florida First with the group; however, I did go on the Feed Florida First webenabled site, last night, and made some corrections to the “Hunger Now” and “Our Work” pages that I created at the Coding for a Cause. I'll let you know if I'm able to attend, and if not, then you can assign me some tasks.
Module List
Bob I also am sorry you can't make it Thursday... especially since you provided good feedback on the Modules Matrix. I will be there and will take good notes and use them to fill out the matrix so maybe that will help.
And thanks again for helping me get online on the wifi on Saturday. It worked Saturday but I was not able to get on on Sunday despite some expert help but fortunately John let me share his Virgin Mobile card which did help... I'd say the wifi was a big issue again this year and wished I had brought my own card. I guess there aren't many Windows people so Windows problems don't get the priority.
I hope I shared the Modules Matrix with the small drupal group - if you want access and didn't get it, let me know.
WiFi at Forida DrupalCamp
Marguerite,
The one common problem I heard was that people would lose the WiFi connection after they put their computer to sleep for lunch or break, or shut it down for the night and come back in the morning. What seemed to work for those people would be to do a complete reboot of their computer. I'm sorry you didn't get in touch with me Sunday. Other than the WiFi problems, things seem to go pretty smoothly.
Oh boy...
I can't make it tonight. Life getting in the way again! Next one!
Had a great time at DCFL last weekend. My only complaint is that there were sessions I wanted to attend booked at the same times! Heh! I also really enjoyed Coding for a Cause. I got a lot out of it (and some more Drupal/Open source Kool-aid from Mike). Nicely done event and pretty well organized. Kudos!
Whoo Hoo!
Okay, just got the "final word" and I'll be attending tonight's meetup! Mike, would love for you to go over the Git presentation I saw you were doing during the Coding for a Cause, if you don't mind, as it was most definitely interesting. However, there might just not be enough time, as we definitely need to go over the modules and Feed Florida First. Maybe next meetup? Picking up pizza at Ryans! See you tonight!
Jay's Top 50 Modules
Mike,
Great job going over the first 25 of the top 50 modules, tonight. We stopped with webform, and agreed to take up the last 25 beginning with the Print module. I assume that will be at the Cocoa Village meetup, as that's where most of us get together.
turnout
Great turnout in Cocoa Village last night, we had 16 people come out to the meetup, and as Bob mentioned above, we made it half-way through the list of the top 50 modules - we'll continue with the second half at the next meetup.
In addition, we managed to make some good progress on two (Feed Florida First and Aerostars) of the Florida DrupalCamp 2012 Coding for a Cause projects (I'm not sure if anyone was working on the Victim Services site last night - if so, please correct me!)
We also had a brief discussion about the future of Brevard County meetups - frequency, location, and day-of-the-week. I believe that Ben Hosmer will be posting a quick poll in http://groups.drupal.org/florida to get a feeling for what everyone wants to do moving forward.
Thanks,
-mike
Remote Participation = > Success
Just to throw in my overstating-the-obvious 2 cents: if you enable remote participation at the meetups, you will likely have greater turnout.* Brevard County being such a "long" county, it can be an hour drive for many (this was true for me). In fact, if all the Central FL groups would do this, it would sure increase the jedi mind power at meetups, no?
It is 2012. There are so many free ways to vitually conference. Just a matter of choosing a quiet location with internet connection.
I saw a recent posting of
I saw a recent posting of meetup minutes from Broward County group, and it seems that they do remote participation too.
FYI: I connect to internet via MiFi and have limited (20 gig) bandwidth allowance. Last night's conference with pre-conference social time (~ 2 hrs.) barely took a hit out of my allowance. So, seems that anyone with a laptop incl. audio + mic, and a mobile stick could make this thing inclusive for way more people.
Heck, at the Orlando meetup last time, one person participated -- with live video -- from a car! (Thank goodness he wasn't driving.) Not that's exploiting technology.
The only problem we have with
The only problem we have with remote participation, is that most of our meeting areas don't have a reliable wifi connection.
MiFi
Hence the MiFi suggestion. If anyone is willing to share their bandwidth for the meetups. (I would if I was there. Sorry that doesn't help.)
If you've got one and want to
If you've got one and want to get it to me, I will be happy to do it for you.
Thanks for a great meetup
Thanks Mike, Ryan, Bob and everyone for a terrific meetup last night. Very information rich! I took a bunch of informal notes in the Module Matrix - I'll clean it up today and post the link.
Love the location too. Very central and comfortable.
