Drupal Meeting @ ACM-NE conference in Burlington

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Breaking this idea out of email as this seems to be a better forum to discuss it.

"We had the last Vermont Drupal group meeting at our office in Burlington. Should we consider a Drupal meeting here while the Alliance for Community Media NE Conference is going on at Champlain College in Burlington, perhaps Thursday the 21st? It's a 15 minute walk between the College and our Office.

Seems like it might be a good idea to try to get some folks from the ACM Conference (http://acm-ne.org/) rubbing shoulders (and brains) with Drupaleros. There are a bunch of Drupal folks involved in community media in VT. "

sounds great

I am all for it. It is just a matter of time.

1) Lunch on Thursday (the conference program says it is between 12-2)
2) Thursday night @ the Access Center Party
3) Friday morning before 10am

I am throwing out times that will not conflict with those of us required or planning to attend sessions.

I'm open for other ideas.

Jason

Thursday 530 - 7 PM: RSVP Requested

How does Thursday from 530 - 7 PM sound for everyone? The conference party starts at 7 PM, and it's dinner on your own. I am looking into getting us a sponsor for this dinner (and/or drinks), so if you are going to attend, PLEASE POST HERE! We need to know how many people are coming!

In order to move this along, let's for the moment say it's going to be at Vermont Pub & Brewery. It's pub food, not too pricey, and there's good locally brewed beer. You can walk to it from the conference; it's on the corner of College and St. Paul.

Here's the directions:
144 College St, Burlington, VT - (802) 865-0500

AGAIN, PLEASE RSVP ON THIS PAGE.

TelVue Sponsoring!

emilyf's picture

Great news! TelVue (http://www.telvue.com/) has agreed to sponsor our meetup! So we'll be at VPB for dinner and drinks thanks to their generousity.

Please try to reply if you're planning on attending. Thus far we have at least 5 folks from VT access centers planning on coming, so let's add in some more Drupalheads!

Count me in for sure! See VPB details at http://www.vermontbrewery.com/.
Great local beer and local burgers with full menu. It doesn't get more VT than that. If weather's nice there's outdoor seating too.
See you there.

I'm going to see if I can get a few of the OCTL [1] crew to head up there for the meeting. I'll let you know as soon as possible.

1: we're slowly moving away from using the name openflows to the acronym OCTL (openflows community technology lab)

I'll certainly be along to this as well as being at ACM NE.

Emily we're (Amherst Community Television) one of the Open Media Project Beta stations so maybe we could talk about some of your questions about OMP.

Cheers
Craig

I'll try to make it...

Drupal & Social Media at the ACM-NE Conference

bradley.holt's picture

I don't post here very often, but you may have noticed me announcing Burlington, VT PHP Users Group meetings in the past. I thought I'd post a few thoughts here that might be of interest. I'll be on the "Constant Contact and Twitter, and Flickr and Facebook: Oh My!" panel on tools for free speech activists and media centers on Thursday at 2pm. After that, there's a social media workshop at 4pm that I'll be helping out with.

One of the things we've done for the conference is setup a website that aggregates the conference tag, acmne09, from Twitter, Flickr, Technorati, YouTube, and Delicious (there will also be blip.tv shows from various PEGs). The site is here if you're interested:

http://acmne.net/09/

At the workshop, we'll be helping people learn how to use these various social media sites. Here's where I get to the main point of this post: this website was built specifically for the purpose of aggregating tags, but many of the participants won't have the tools to do something similar for their community. Since acmne.net simply uses open data feeds (Atom, RSS, APIs) it's possible to do a lot of this in Drupal - which is currently used by many PEGs.

However, we won't be addressing how to use Drupal to do this. Some of the workshop participants may have implementation questions related to Drupal. Is anyone going to be at the conference and willing to be a resource if anyone has questions on this? If so, feel free to come to the workshop or give me your contact information so I can pass it on to those who do have questions.

Thanks,
Bradley
