I have accepted the overzealous spam filtering on g.d.o (if you included a link, you MUST be a spammer!) under the theory that we should live with our own tools– if a brand new user has to put up with it, I should also until I make it better for everyone.
As of today, I'm done with that noble approach.

This was on editing a comment I had just made! No new links added. The original four were to two Drupal modules, Drupal documentation, and a Drupalcon session (and of course they had triggered the spam filter on submitting). After editing, it gave a CAPTCHA again and then gave that message and that's the end of it. No chance to retype the CAPTCHA.
Surely, people are being trained, consciously or not, to leave links out of their posts and comments— and that's terrible.
New, practical approach:
- People with accounts over 6 months old and over 20 posts should not have to prove they aren't spammers.
- Spam gets through the automated stuff anyway, so toning down the filtering and using a flag-as-spam go-to-human-moderated system makes sense.
- There is no point 3... except to ask where to stand for leverage to do something about this?
I don't care if the fix is to let people buy a role that gets them out of spam filtering or do the same thing by proving contribution to the Drupal Association or – simplest – coding something like #1 for granting people a "there-is-reason-to-believe-i-am-not-a-spammer" role. I just know that I, personally, am done with it. Putting my link at the bottom so I can see the beloved CaPTchA one more time, and totally undercut my i-am-not-a-spammer argument. [Edit: OK, something in particular is going wrong with the spam filtering, it's triggering the total block with a link in the post, and providing the CAPTCHA with no links at all.]

I wish we had better insight
I wish we had better insight into Mollom's decisons or we had multiple similar competitors to choose from. I agree that their service does not seem to make good decisions. I'm not about to write code to work those decisions. I would rather solve the problem or find a new provider. My .02
We could just do this approach with the Captcha module
You get a CAPTCHA every time until we know who you are (x posts and y time). Anyone who gets through that is assumed an honest human... or at least a hard-working spammer.

I'm going to defer to greggles and josh_k on this one. I am just to stubborn to work around mollom. It is supposed to be a 'set it and forget it' service.

I still get a Captcha, and I have hundreds of posts on D.O. and more then a few on G.D.O. Also, every time I edit a post I get a new Captcha. I am not pointing fingers at Mollum or any other solution but I too find it so frustrating that I have abandoned posting on more then one occasion.

I prefer to use mollom. Yes, it's not perfect but it's much better than what we had before.
@mgparisi - posts on d.o don't matter in terms of mollom reputation b/c it is not connected to mollom (and note how d.o has a much bigger spam problem). It is a pain and I understand how it can be frustrating enough that you don't post - the problem with a solution like "after 6 months you can bypass mollom" is that spammers will game that too.
I'd like to consider something like Dario Ghilardi's peer review system (aka stackoverflow for Drupal) as a potential enhancement to g.d.o that could address this, but that is at least a few months away.

Well, how many posts and how much time, I've been here for years and have at least a few posts - so what's the magic formula, because I just got locked from editing one of my posts, lord knows why...
I have been a member for 2 years and 38 weeks and have 25 posts, I would think that'd qualify me as kosher.
Oh, how ironic, this post required a CAPTCHA to be filled in, because its full of spammy links eh?
Just a proposal
That was just a proposal, not how it actually works. Moshe has stated in the past that everyone will continue to be subject to Mollom, no matter who you are.
What bugs me most is that I tend to hit submit and then go to another tab/window while it's submitting. When I get back to that tab sometimes hours later, I find my post didn't submit because of Mollom. I try to remember to sit there watching the page when submitting on g.d.o but I often forget because it's not my normal workflow.

Why did this trigger Mollom?
Would it be enough for <h1> <h2> <h3> to disappear from "Allowed HTML tags" in the information about input formats below each comment field? After all, folks can edit their comments, so they would eventually get the idea. (And most comments don't have heading tags within them. It's just that it takes only one to wreck the semantic structure of the whole page.)At least it did when I tried to enter it with the
<code>tags around just the html tags themselves in the relevant discussion.It's particularly frustrating as I try to wedge more and more volunteer work into less and less free time as we approach code freeze.
Mollom issue
There is the following related Mollom issue, with quite a lot of people experiencing this problem (legitimate users get blocked and can't post):

I'm having this problem also, probably because of links from drupal.org to drupal.org, like this one.
Fortunately, trying to post and edit this comment is only giving me now the other error message:
"We're sorry, but the spam filter thinks your submission could be spam. Please complete the CAPTCHA."

I really cannot upload a file
I really cannot upload a file attachment to a comment already posted (in edit mode).
I click "edit" (it's my comment), I choose a file to attach, I hit "Attach"... The the file is attached but I got a status message INSIDE "File attachments" fieldset:
