Start:
2013-01-28 19:00 - 21:00 America/Los_Angeles
Event type:
User group meeting

Do you own or help manage a company or organization that uses Drupal? Does your team depend on professional Drupal service providers in the Greater Los Angeles Area? Have you and your projects been affected by a shortage of Drupal development and theming talent?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then consider coming to our first-ever Drupal Jobs Summit from 7-9pm on Monday, January 28, 2013. There is no charge for this event. It is open to any and all companies and organizations who qualify, by:

  1. Hosting any Drupal meetups, trainings or other Drupal community events, including Frontend Drupal, High Performance Drupal, Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, LA Drupal, and so on;
  2. Sponsoring or exhibiting at any of the Los Angeles Drupal job fairs, including this month's Drupal Job Fair on Monday, January 28th.

Hosting a meetup at your office qualifies you for this event. Buying pizza at a meetup, while appreciated, does not. If you do not meet the above qualifications, contact us at jobs-jan28summit@droplabs.net with a request to attend.

This is a roll-up-your-sleeves working meeting and we will be meeting one another (many for the first time) and discussing the following topics:

  • Building a healthy marketplace and business community of colleagues and potential partners;
  • Getting the most out of our recruiting and marketing dollar;
  • What we're doing now to staff up, from local recruiting and in-house training to outsourcing and hiring out-of-town or overseas;
  • Identifying the skills, job titles and qualifications of desirable candidates, employees and vendors;
  • Workshops, trainings and other programs that most or all of us can get behind in order to solve our business needs.

We'll have an open bar and cocktails will be served.

This event announcement was

This event announcement was removed from the "LA Drupal" group this weekend, but I'm not sure why. Due to lack of any context or communication about this, I've cross-posted it back.

If anyone want to discuss this event, its relevance to our developer and business communities, or anything else, please go ahead either publicly here in the comments or privately by sending an email to jobs-jan28summit@droplabs.net

Thanks to all the attendees

Thanks to all the attendees of our first-ever Drupal Jobs Summit! The companies represented this time were:

   CivicActions, Exaltation of Larks, Princess Cruises, Sensis Agency and Stauffer.

The event was smaller and more intimate than I expected, but it was very casual and enjoyable yet productive. We ended up discussing nearly everything that was on the original agenda:

  • Building a healthy marketplace and business community of colleagues and potential partners;
  • Getting the most out of our recruiting and marketing dollar;
  • What we're doing now to staff up, from local recruiting and in-house training to outsourcing and hiring out-of-town or overseas;
  • Identifying the skills, job titles and qualifications of desirable candidates, employees and vendors;
  • Workshops, trainings and other programs that most or all of us can get behind in order to solve our business needs.

The one topic that wasn't discussed was outsourcing and offshoring, which is perhaps understandable due to their privileged or taboo nature.

We'll be having another one of these soon we'd love to have feedback from as many attendees as possible regarding their experience. We'll be sending out an email shortly with a link to our survey.

offshoring and outsourcing

Congrats on organizing the event! I wasn't able to participate (i work out of Mexico) but your comment on offshoring caught my eye:

I've first hand experience in this matter, since I have worked for 15 years doing technology-related work for american companies, and I have just started (about 2 years) doing Drupal work for US companies (quite by accident).

I have had a great experience doing diverse work (support, module development, a few sites, etc.) that I usually don't see down here (a crm, inventory control, e-learning site, etc,). This has allowed me to broaden my skills and indirectly helped with my local projects (guess what I learned yesterday? We can do this with Feeds!).

I'd really like to do more internaitonal work. I am taking several steps to get this done, such as stepping up on the social networks (such as Linkedin), redoing my own site (which is now multilingual), increasing my involvement with the Drupal Community, and reaching out to events and initiatives such as this. I am also trying to get in contact with a few Drupal studios to get something in place. Any suggestions?

It's great that you're taking

It's great that you're taking steps to get more involved in the Drupal community! What are some of the things you've done in the last year?

There's going to be another Drupal employers summit at GLADCamp. Check out GLADCamp.org for more information.
