Event type:
User group meeting

Drupal's move to using Symfony2 components for version 8 will introduce many changes for Drupal developers as well as a steep learning curve.

This talk will aim to give you a head start on that process. Jeremy Cook will introduce the Symfony2 framework by taking a look at its goals and architecture. He will then take a look at the lifecycle of a request and how it is converted into a response in a Symfony2 app.

The remainder of the time will then be spent looking in more detail at the individual Symfony2 components that Drupal is adopting for version 8.

At the end of this talk you should have enough knowledge to begin your transition to Drupal 8 and Symfony2 components, helping to ease the learning curve.

Thanks everyone for coming out last night and for welcoming me to the group. I've now posted my slides online and they can be found at http://www.slideshare.net/jeremycook0/introduction-to-symfony2-for-drupa.... The documentation link that I mentioned at the end for the Symfony2 components is http://symfony.com/doc/current/components/index.html. As I said last night please feel free to send any questions that you had after the talk was over or any feedback on the talk. You can either email me, contact me through Twitter or post a response to this message.

Thanks a lot

Thanks Jeremy for coming over all the way from Guelph and taking the time to do this presentation. Really useful.

After Drupal 8 is released, we should have a refresher presentation.
