Web Applications Developer | Environmental Working Group

The web applications programmer will take responsibility for managing programming and implementing custom, web-based database applications on EWG's websites. The successful candidate will need to learn and understand the way EWG's Drupal-based website functions so that future programming can tightly integrate with the CMS.

Working under the direction of the Manager of Interactive Communications and with other staff members, this person will ensure development projects are completed according to established timelines, using a variety of programming languages and software, and with creativity and professionalism. Experience with Drupal is required.

This person will also work with current staff to maintain and improve internal IT operations including: desktop software evaluation and installation, network connectivity within and to EWG, and internal web/server-based applications.


• Experience building Drupal-based websites required.
• Intimate knowledge of HTML, PHP/MySQL & CSS required.
• Experience developing custom Drupal modules preferred.
• Knowledge of AJAX or Ruby on Rails a plus.
• Knowledge of web UI design and accessibility standards a plus.
• Basic knowledge of MovableType and/or WordPress a plus.
• Knowledge of Mac OSX, OSX Server administration, and Apache a plus.
• Passionate interest in environmental issues.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is a national, non-partisan organization that uses the power of information to protect the environment and human health. EWG seeks a detail-oriented, creative, deadline-driven applications programmer to assist with development of ewg.org and our other web sites. This full-time position is based in our Washington, D.C. headquarters.
