Drupal 8 will meet higher standards of access than our previous releases. As developers and site builders, we continue to incorporate new techniques and tech access technologies into Drupal.
For the International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPwD) on December 3rd, 2013, let’s celebrate some of the individuals who have helped us achieve these improvement. This list is by no means exhaustive and many more individuals have contributed code, testing and documentation than are listed below.
- Mike Gifford is the Drupal 8 Core Accessibility Maintainer, and has been contributing accessibility enhancements to Drupal core since 2009. He bring years of practical experience building accessible web sites to the Drupal development community.
- Wim Leers has been working alongside Jesse to develop and improve the aural interfaces in Drupal. Together they gave a talk about this aspect of improving the authoring experience at DrupalCon Portland.
- Kevin Miller is the primary developer of the QUAIL automated accessibility testing library and the maintainer of the Accessibility module. You can listen to him explain these tools in a recent Aquia podcast interview.
- Brandon Bowersox-Johnson has volunteered many hours to turn accessibility testing results into actionable issues.
- Shyamala Rajaram helps us manage a global team of volunteers by facilitating meetings and working sessions.
- Matt Parker is a solid developer and mentor in accessibility issues, most recently helping Anand Pathak Sharma propose a patch to solve an accessibility testing blocker, drupala11y.org finds two new color contrast issues.
- Vincenzo Rubano has been instrumental in helping us understand how screen readers users perceive Drupal pages. He is currently attending university for computer science. We can’t wait to have his talent and insights again when his studies are finished!
We’re proud and thankful for the efforts of these people, and all those who have contributed time and energy writing, reviewing and testing patches aimed at improving the accessibility of Drupal. There is much work still to do. If you are able, please join this effort to make sure our next version is our best yet.
Help us improve Drupal accessibility even further!
Lend a hand to the Green by 2014 effort to get us to zero automated QUAIL test failures by 2014. This would include improving the QUAIL automated accessibility testing library and its Drupal implementation, the Accessibility module.
Contribute to the Green by 2014 effort. We most critically needs assistance fixing the Testswarm module so that our automated (QUAIL) testswill run again on a daily basis.
Address Drupal 8 core tasks and bugs tagged with accessibility. We need developers, testers and documentation writers.
And help us with numerous development issues tracking progress in ATAG 2.0 conformance. We also need assistance keeping existing issues well tagged and organized.

@kattekrab
Huge Thanks
It was so heart-warming to see this post last week. As an all-volunteer group, many of us come and go as we are able to contribute. It's been wonderful to see a new wave of contributors emerge with so much positive energy.
Special thanks to Jesse, who did not per her own name on this list but who is the most deserving! She has spear-headed so many tickets and action items, and always wants to get down to business and get things done to make Drupal great.
Thanks and Congratulations to you all!
