Start:
2014-01-15 19:00 - 21:00 America/New_York
Organizers:

Happy New Year! I hope we all had an excellent holiday season!

Our first meetup of the New Year will be on our normal third Wednesday of the month at our regular spot, Infosys International (address below).

We are looking for speakers for the meetup. I'd like to split the night into 2 sections. The first section about a given broad topic. Some ideas include:

Beginner Topics:
1. System Installation
2. Initial Configuration
3. Beginning content planning/design

Intermediate Topics:
1. Intro to theming.
2. Intro to module development

The next section we can have more of a "lightning round" format with 5-10 minute overviews of a given module we find useful.

I am hoping we can attract more people to speak in 2014... if you thought about it... now is the time to do it! :)

Location Address:
Infosys International Inc.
110 Terminal Drive
Plainview, NY 11803

See you in a couple of weeks!

Happy BDay Drupal!

It turns out next Wednesday is Drupal's birthday. We are going to have to do something special for this day... maybe get a cake... :)

Theming talk

amccoy's picture

It just so happens that I had signed up for an acquia webinar on Jan 14
(https://www.acquia.com/resources/webinars/psd-drupal-theme). You all can probably still sign up. I would be happy to give a brief talk/re-cap of what I learned on the topic "From PSD to Drupal Theme". Also, if others participate in the webinar, we could discuss it and/or do our own Q&A on concepts/issues.
See you next week
Annemarie
PS Cupcakes could be a fun for a birthday party!

Not able to talk tomorrow

amccoy's picture

Literally, I can't talk -- due to laryngitis/chest cold, and will be unable to attend meetup :-(

But I did listen in on the acquia theming webinar today and so can share some informative links with the group ...

  1. slide presentation:

  2. resources noted in presentation:
    https://drupal.org/node/1886770

  3. reference to previous talk on base themes: http://munich2012.drupal.org/program/sessions/evaluating-base-themes.html

Hope you might find these helpful.
Creatively yours,
Annemarie

Thanks Annemarie! I hope you

Thanks Annemarie! I hope you feel better soon, this weather changing from -3434 °F to +100 °F can't help... :)

We are going to have an open birds of a feather format with a focus on themeing. I'd like to also discuss some future topics and see if we can attract some speakers for future meetups.

I've also setup a special Drupal 8 birthday instance at TryDrupal8.com for everyone to try... :)

I am looking forward to tomorrow!

Thanks.

Nick

Hello

Hello all,

I hope everyone is doing well!

I found this group online and I am happy to hear that Long Island has something like this for drupal users.

Do you guys hold these meetings often? It seems that you just held one yesterday. I hope that it provided a lot of insight!

I hope to break the stereo type of the "typical recruiter", I am not looking to pull anyone from their current job or blast them with phone calls. I am just looking to introduce myself as I have a good grasp of what the Long Island market has to over if ever interested.

I hope to learn more about Drupal and I am sure passionate developers such as yourself will be able to do so!

Have a great day!

Ryan
