Google Summer of Code 2023 - Task Organization Wiki

The vision of the Drupal Association is to establish the community-built Drupal software as the leading platform for the Web and how? Well, by uniting a global open source community to build, secure, and promote Drupal. It is in clear that in order to achieve this ambitious goal, we constantly need to challenge ourselves and others and grow our community with fresh bright minds. Google Summer of Code has historically been a great source of finding these talents and are an amazing example of our more internal tagline -> Come for the code, stay for the community.

Drupal and GSoC - Moving forward in 2022

It appears that rachel_norfolk has left the Drupal community and no longer has a role at the Drupal Association. Perfect timing for us to rebuild Drupal's relationship with Google Summer of Code. GSoC students usually pop up in January looking to get started. Who is interested in organizing? I'm a bit busy with my full-time gig, but I'd be more than happy to provide support to the future org admins of Drupal's GSoC, Who wants to help get this amazing initiative back on track??

Drupal NOT Accepted into Google Summer of Code 2021

Sad to report that Drupal will NOT be participating in Google Summer of Code 2021. It is fair to update the community on how/why this happened and how we can prevent it from happening in the future?

Did you know the Drupal Association requested that I no longer participate in Google Summer of Code? Apparently the Drupal Association decided for the community that Rachel Lawson (paid employee of the DA) become the GSoC "organization admin".

Google Summer of Code 2021 - Task Organization Wiki

Drupal was not selected to participate in Google Summer of Code 2021. Google shared with us that they had a large number of organization applications for 2021 and were only able to accept about half. In addition to the volume of applicants, Google sets a goal of bringing in at least 30 new organizations each year which means they have some groups take a year off every now and then.
The team at Google conveyed that they appreciate Drupal’s solid history with the program and encouraged us to apply again next year - which we plan to do!

GSoD 2019 Application Questions

Google Season of Docs 2019 application phase is now open and ends April 23rd.

I went through the application questions and it is a bit more straight forward than GSoC. The 2 main questions we still need to answer are below. I have responses, but figured I would request feedback from community.

In addition, different from GSoC, mentors are specifically supposed to register on their own at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe-JjGvaKKGWZOXxrorONhB8qN3mjPr... -- anyone interested in participating should register as a mentor.

We created a new group specifically for GSoD @ https://groups.drupal.org/google-season-docs -- this will be last post about GSoD in GSoC/GCI groups. Please join the new group if you want to continue learning more about Google Season of Docs.
