I'd sign up but sign says "Signups closed for this Event"

Conflicts w/ N. NJ Meet-up

danielstrum's picture

Hey Winston,

I would love to come but I am in Westchester County and both this and the N. New Jersey Meet-up are about a 1/2 hour drive. I have been going to NJ regularly so I will continue w/ that. Maybe you would consider changing the date? I know of at least one other person from Westchester who will be in the same situation.

YUP Conflict

Missed last Northern NJ meetup due to conflict, would rather not have to choose, probably do both.

drumdiva's picture

Are signups, in fact, closed for this event?

Signups are NOW open (and I changed the date)!!

winston's picture

We'll go for the 21st so as not to conflict with the Northern NJ meetup. It occurs to me that there may definitely be some Westchester folks who may want to do both (thanks wildfeed).

Please do sign up now!

And we'll see you there.

@wildfeed, @danielstrum, are you regulars at the Northern NJ meetups? If so, would love to get your thoughts about the lower fairfield meetup. I know the Northern NJ meetups are very well received so any lessons learned would be awesome!

I'm in

Looking forward to it.

I'll have to meet you all at the next one. On the 21st I'll be at....you guessed it....Drupalcon in SF.

Lucky you!

Promise to bring us back some "secrets".

Kind of close to Hartford's meet

jrtorrent's picture

I signed with the hope I will be able to make it. For future meets we may want to pick a specific day of the month that is somewhat separated from other Drupal meetings by a few days (even the good stuff can give you a belly ache when there is too much of it.)

For those living North in Fairfield County, I have posted an "84 corridor" feeler to form a Drupal group (or not).

Winston, you have put some feelers for a New Haven group or did I misunderstand? Yale is doing quite a bit with Drupal and I would definitively join a group in that area if we can get the Buldogs to join (and hopefully help with the venue as they have lots and lots of space available by just requesting it.) What do you think?

Anyone else?

No, I didn't put a feeler out for a New Haven group (at least I don't think so).

I'd say I'm working on a "Lower Fairfield" meetup which would be the Greenwich up to maybe Bridgeport possibly drawing some from Westchester and areas just north of this "95 corridor".

I think "84 Corridor" would not be convenient during the week for anyone from Lower Fairfield (many of whom may work in NYC like myself).

I also think Hartford is quite a distance from this meetup. It would be well over an hour for me to get to Hartford for example (even without traffic). So I'm working under the assumption that a Lower Fairfield meetup would not be a conflict with either of those for the majority.

For weekend stuff a different story of course.

Harford vs. Fairfield

jrtorrent's picture

I live about 45+ min from Hartford and about 1 Hour from Stamford. Either one is far but the rewards of meeting drupalers with similar needs and wants can be extremely high if the meets are properly run. I believe there are quite a few drupalers in the same boat I find myself in. Don't you want to draw from that group? Anyhow that was just a suggestion to minimize burnouts from the true enthusiasts from CT and Eastern NY area.

Regards

Fair Enough

And yes, sure, the more the merrier!

This is just the first meetup in lower fairfield though, so it may take a meetup or two for us to find our bearings.

Yale...

winston's picture

I would definitely be interested in New Haven and Yale for a weekend event though!!

Do you know anyone specifically there who is using Drupal and affilitated with Yale?

I'd love to get a full day Drupal Camp organized.

Yale

Check the CT group at http://groups.drupal.org/node/50873 and look for amurrand postings. You may be interested in crossposting your meets there as I see a few people from Fairfield county posting there. Here are the textuals

Connecticut Drupal Group
amurrand - Tue, 2010-02-16 17:11

We have just launched Drupal with 83 modules at Yale as a central content management system. We have developed a web standards group that will be responsible for governance of the modules we add (so that we all have the same total offering to pick from), and to develop our user group community. We probably need a few more months to get everything working smoothly, but then might want to expand our community. I am keeping track of the folks who are interested. Is anyone near New Haven?

Drupal presentation
amurrand - Tue, 2010-02-16 18:31

We developed an unusual "front end" to Drupal to make it behave like Wordpress, so that people could check off a list of "features" they wanted, and those features would represent the totality of modules that are needed to accomplish that feature - such as
Photo Gallery - which requires about 4 modules to be enabled. We are calling the service SimpleSite, and it is intended for administrative assistants who are not tech smart to be able to get what they want by merely checking boxes on a list of features.
Would that be interesting?

Drupal Developers Looking for Short Term Work?
amurrand - Tue, 2010-02-16 19:41

Are any of you good Drupal dudes looking for short term (a couple of months) of work - daytime or night time. We have a list of over 35 projects already and are not staffed to handle the volume yet. Let me know...

If you setup something with them let me know. On the other hand, I have a few contacts outside IT and maybe we can get a Drupal event sponsored with some high power Drupal developer.

Oh that's rich!

winston's picture

I did post this to the CT group. In fact that is where I created this meetup. I cross-posted to the NYC group!

I think this is a quirck in g.d.o. that you can't always easily tell where a discussion or meetup was originally created depending on how you get to it. I've noticed the taxonomy blocks frequently don't show the taxonomy for the group you are current in as well.

Anyway, this is definitely posted to the CT group, and I'll get in touch with amurrand - thanks. Hope to meet you soon.

Talks Between Meetup Groups

drmarkafriedman's picture

Should anyone from the Lower Fairfield CT Meetup Group be interested in giving a presentation at the Central Connecticut Meetup Group, feel free to get in contact with me. Our group has talked about a format which includes two 30-minute talks each night... one "What am I doing with Drupal?" presentation and one "How to do this in Drupal" presentation. See our [wiki page](for more information).

Regrets

DebbieM's picture

Sadly, I will not be able to attend this Meetup but hope the turnout warrants more Meetups. Please add me to the list of "84 corridor" folks as well.

That's a Wrap

winston's picture

Good first meetup everyone - thanks for coming!

So here are the resolutions from this meetup...

  1. The Cosi spot seems to be convenient for now

  2. No formal agenda at this time. Either someone can informally present, bring a problem they want help with, or just chat

I'll schedule one for next month!!
