Hi Everyone,
I can see so many Drupal Rock Stars @ Bangalore. Why cannot we meetup to share ideas and discuss anything on Drupal..... . I would suggest that we do it in a coffee shop but if more people turn up then we have to think of something else.. We can always go to a shopping mall and discuss at the Food Court/Canteen.. I think Forum or Garuda mall will be ideal place to meet in the evening........
Bye the bye i forgot to introduce myself :-) My name is Anil Sagar working on Drupal for the past 1 and half year. I would like to share my DrupalCon San Francisco experience. I have a lot to talk about my experience with Drupal.. things that I like about Drupal, things that i would want to improve, issues/problems I have.. Again, open to have limited set of topics to discuss as well coz the list might go on.. Please add your ideas/suggestion as comments.. Ideally, wanted to do this over a weekend for more participation, but this time i am just visiting Bangalore (My home place) for a week. So may be next time we can do it in the weekend.
I would like to invite all Drupalers in Bangalore for this event on May 5th Evening 06:30 pm at any suggested place. Please suggest some good place for meetup and we are open for that.
Ideally i would like to do the following things @ our meetup.
First 15 min to half hour: introductions
Who are you?
What brings you here?
What do you do?
How do you use Drupal?
What are your websites, what companies do you work for?
Generally catching up.
If it’s always the same five people, that goes quicker. If you have a bigger group, you might just use names.
Then presentation if you have one. This works well if it is from a half hour to an hour.
Next hour, one of two things:
Q and A on the presentation
Branching out into small group discussion. Divide up into several small groups focused on specific topics. For example, there might be small groups on: theming, module development, etc.
Please share your suggestions as comments.....
Lets keep a count of how many people are sure to attend..
Please contact me for any suggestions @ +91-9930401493

I saw this thread late. Any plans over weekend?
Drupal Meetup Experience
Hi Guys,
We took the initial step of Drupal meet up @ Bangalore. Last Wednesday we conducted our first drupal meetup with just 5 members @ Global Soft Solutions , Bangalore. I would like to thank Giri Venkatesan Director of Global Soft who given his office space to organize the event.
We discussed lots of things during the meet up. I shared my DrupalCon SanFrancisco experience. We discussed things like how we can scale drupal, best practices to follow in drupal development, latest features in Drupal7. It was a nice experience.
I would love to meet once in every month. But, at present i am in mumbai. I would like to see someone in this group take initiative and organize the next meet up in bangalore.
Cheers,
Anil Sagar

Hi Anil
Thanks for your reply!!
Our conference room can support upto 25-30 people.
we can include some topics on Drupal 7 or theming.
\Naren
Hi Guys
Thanks Naren for your suggestions. 25-30 is huge and glad to hear. We can organize in your office conference room.
@gibbet: Great to hear and for your interest. I can assure you there will be one session for newbies, basics of drupal :-) I am very much interested in encouraging new people and helping them to kick start with Drupal, that's how community grows. Please share your suggestions if you want any specific topics to hear from the people who are gonna participate....
Meetup count is: 6 (+1 gibbet)

:)
well, i'm not that new either.. 3 months designing my own site! floored by drupal's awesomeness... I'm more than happy to just listen in... memcache, drupal 7, and how everyone's using drupal sounds excellent! My personal interest is in how large dynamic drupal sites scale performance wise, especially with many modules... but there is enough on the subject floating around the net... Wouldn't mind hearing experiences using drupal in the cloud though!

Meetup Agenda
Its great to see Drupal devs from bangalore planning to come together.
Appart from this thread we can bring in more ppl by sending out invitation. We can even use social media like facebook
But as i can see we haven't decided the most important thing.
the Agenda
Generally we can have an Introduction session and some interaction,
If some one could give some talks that would be great.
Also .. so as to encourage Drupal we can have some tutorial sessions
if we dont build a proper agenda this could have a negative effect ;-)
I appreciate that a meeting
I appreciate that a meeting has been organized on 19th June, I will be in Chennai on 19th and 20th June,2010. So I wont be able to attend, but if I can be a help in any way, please let me know -
Attending :)
@anil @naren Thx for taking initiative. I hate to say that though I have been involved with all things Drupal for a very long time now, I never really explored the drupal community in Bangalore. Do you have something specific in mind to discuss at the meet? Or everybody in attendance would prefer an unconference. One thing that we MUST have in the agenda is plan out regular community meetups in Bangalore and evangelize drupal among newbies (think college students et al). My friends in Pune have brought together an amazing community with similar efforts.
@raj_arjun what kind of tutorial session would you like to have on the list?
@naren I have sent you an email confirmation to confirm my attending the meet. Like you said there are about 25 slots open. How about creating an eventbrite page or FB event for the meet and issue free tickets. I find that a great way to manage a meet (eg: http://drupalcamp.eventbrite.com/ ). Do we have room to accomodate more ppl? If yes, I will spread the word about the meet. Window of 1030 to 1330 seems to short to me. The meet should be for the entire day IMO. But that depends on the agenda.
What does everybody think about the below format for the Agenda -
1. Common get together and introductions (45-60 mins)
2. ~60 mins sessions split into 2 tracks. One for newbies and the other for experienced drupalers.
3. Newbie track: getting started demo, drupal architecture, theming, basic e-commerce site, basic custom module development, documentation initiative et al
4. Advanced track: search, scaling, deployment, development environment, advanced module development, module/patches/reviews contribution initiative et al
5. Common BoF style networking over coffee or beer :)
With the above format, we will need community members to volunteer for sessions they could take. I can take upto 2 sessions in the advanced track.
So what does everybody say!?
@wikidkaka Your format for
@wikidkaka
Your format for the agenda is great
wel.. atlest for the first meet up lets just not pack a lot of sessions because right now we dont know the scale of advanced users and newbies.
i think the most important thing that has to be done in the 1st session is recognizing DRUPAL BANGALORE. Also get an active circle that will carry this forward.
Making it a live brand. so that we can schedule more sessions. This will also help in getting more people into the group.
Hi Kaka
Hi Kaka,
I just thinking the same. :-) Regarding Agenda please find below schedule. Changes are most welcome. :-)
10:00 AM - 10:30 AM : Introduction of everyone (Where they work, Experience in drupal, How they feel about drupal)
10:30 AM - 11:00 AM : Drupal + Apache Solr Search (Advance Track) (By Anil Sagar)
10:30 AM - 11:00 AM : Drupal For Newbies (Beginner Track)
11:00 AM - 11:15 AM : Break
11:15 AM - 11:45 AM : Drupal Performance Related Topic (Advanced Track)
11:15 AM - 11:45 AM : Drupal Module Development for newbies (Beginner Track)
11:45 AM - 12:30 PM : Drupal E - commerce (Advanced Track)
11:45 AM - 12:30 PM : Drupal Theming For Beginners (Beginners Track)
12:30 PM - 01:30 PM : Generally catching up.
@ Raj Arjun: I like your idea. just started a group in facebook called Drupal Meetup Group Bangalore. http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/group.php?gid=121547781217237

+1 for the agenda. Like many
+1 for the agenda. Like many have suggested, move it to a wiki so that speakers can nomiate themselves and we can decide upon having multiple tracks or a single one based on audience.
@anil614sagar good job.. now
@anil614sagar
good job..
now add an event and pull in all drupal developers you have with u..
also post the link at drupal page and drupal india page..
-- ill do the same
this would take care of the social part..
Any one working on a logo and some printed media designs ?
we need at-least a banner :)
And also can put it in mail fwds.
And one more suggestion.. lets try to make it look like a party not a Board meeting :P
I get scary nightmares about
I get scary nightmares about my complete lack of visual creative abilities (also the reason why I would never buy a dress for anybody).
@raj_arjun You can get logo/banner? Also, I like the idea of calling bangalore drupal meetups 'drupal parties' (i mean officially) than a conference/unconference/meetup et al. There should be some local flavor in the drupal community or meetups would get monotonous.
Wel.. i guess then we share
Wel.. i guess then we share the same kinda nightmares :)
But ill try to get the designs up, can get help from others.
And may be naren can put it up.
Wat say naren ?
Drupal Case Studies
@Anil: More or less you have included all for the 1st session. However, I think, we start with topics for beginners and then move on to the advanced topics. That way the beginners will be in some condition to follow the advanced topics. I would go more with Kaka's agenda.
I was just thinking, having Drupal Case Studies just after the 1st topic (general intro) would be allow all to understand the background of the team as well as highlight the segments Drupal has addressed through this team. It could be very very brief cases.
Count me in (I have already sent confirmation mail to Naren). Look forward to see you all.
or...
I say we see how it goes and who turns up... or we poll it once we have a large enough group... right now I'm guessing everyone here will probably be able to follow advanced tracks... If the scale gets large enough we can split beginners and advanced...
My suggestion is that speakers try to ease into topics with say 15 mins covering the basics of performance/e-commerce/theming/etc and then the rest of the time on the advanced side?
Sounds Great!!
Sounds Great!!
@sri20198 very very brief
@sri20198 very very brief cases would not allow the speaker to show how drupal was leveraged to build whatever was intended. If you have a case study you would like to share or know somebody who would, add that to the session/talk proposal. I will set up a wiki page for the purpose later tonight.
what i believe is , as for
what i believe is , as for now lets concentrate more on getting started with this and not the Tracks. The two main things that we should be looking forward is to get Drupalers together and Try to spread it.
And instead of PPl suggesting full Agenda i would like them to put forward topics that they will like to talk about. Then we can poll on it and get the best ones and finalize the Track list..
What say ?
In my organization, Facebook
In my organization, Facebook is banned :( so I created eventbrite event
http://drupalmeet.eventbrite.com/
Hope it works for you. I will send invitations now.
Happy to see that everybody is chipping in. :)
Great!
Great! I am the first one to get my ticket!! Yipee :D
@naren If you have limited capacity you could edit the event and add that figure. That way the event page will show how many attendees have confirmed and how many slots are open. I think there is a waiting list feature too. We could add more details about sessions/talk/agenda as we come up with them.
Ok then lets fix it on event
Ok then lets fix it on event brite.

@raj_arjun Sure, will do
@raj_arjun Sure, will do that.
as the community interest, I think their needs to be two tracks - beginners and advanced.
if everybody posts the topic he is interested in presenting, then we can have a poll to decide which one to include in upcoming party ;) and which one we can save for later.
Guys what about
Guys what about expenses!
Should we track sponsers ?
And what about posting Sessions on Youtube!
That could be a good help + a site for Drupal bangalore!
Debate on it!!
Regarding Sponsors
Hi Raj Arjun,
I like your idea, but since this is the second meetup in Bangalore and we are meeting this time to get to know each other. I think there will be no expenses except tea and biscuits :-)
Once Bangalore Drupal User group is formed and completely ready to take up full day sessions we can organize some thing like Drupal Camp Bangalore and we can think of sponsors. Lets discuss all these things in the upcoming meetup.
I like the idea of posting sessions on youtube and Drupal Site for bangalore group. But, i think its good to utilize groups.drupal.org and facebook page we created for the discussions.
This is my small suggestion. :-)
Cheers,
Anil Sagar
Awesome.. This is really
Awesome.. This is really great..
I would love to help in some way!! I could help in chipping some money if that helps.(Don't expect more as I still have lot of my education loan to clear!!) Since I am away, I think this the only way I could help or may be any??.
Keep me informed guys.. This is really great.. This is making me rethink my career option!!
I will be there

awesome!
I was something down this line too! I'd vote for removing the colored ones from above bangalore... perhaps put them in the name too? like inside the g or/and a ... but i'm picky like that, It isn't even a big meet so we should worry about content rather than presentation :)
or
simply the same bangalore and drupal logo in green instead (garden city after all) and the drupal meet just how it is :D
Thanks for the Comment
Thanks for the Comment gibbet..
lets wait for every one.
we ll get more ideas :)

I like the design. Nice job Srenath. :-) . I would like to know what does these colors indicate.............
Can we show Bangalore famous landmarks or famous places or something like that in the logo...? Just a small suggestion :-)

Do we see any changes? or it is just perfect?
This one obviously needs some
This one obviously needs some re structuring.. Like many had suggested .. start with Beginner sessions. And i would suggest we keep everything together. Its a meet up for all Drupalers not a Training session. So im not in favor of Simultaneous tracks running.
And remove the topics for which we don't have anyone volunteering to Conduct.
Let PPl suggest their own topics and then we can categorize it as part of Beginner or Advanced then Finalize it.
We can also have multiple personals handling a Topic this can make things more Rich!
that is correct... right now,
that is correct... right now, we need volunteers who can take up a topic from the existing list or can suggest a new one.
Volunteers, come forward and get yourself counted :)

Anil Sagar is the only one who seems to have volunteered
Kaka Can you take one track...??
Hi Sumeet,
I know you already have druapl module development presentation that you presented in Drupal Camp Pune last year.... I know you are interested to take one presentation..... :-) Are you up for taking the Drupal Module development for newbies track.....?
Cheers,
Anil Sagar
I am more interested in
I am more interested in meeting the drupal community in Bangalore. We cannot cram a module development session in just 30 minutes. For ppl new to drupal it would not make any sense unless such session is for atleat 90 mins. So, couple of things -
1. Who are the expected attendees. How many? @naresh could you update the preferences on the eventbrite page so that the list of attendees is visible to all.
2. We absolutely cannot have more than 2 decent sessions in the 1030 to 1330 window. We are already decided on a talk on 'apache solr'. This should be of interest to ppl who use drupal regularly and to those who are new to drupal alike. The other one we could decide based on what kind of audience are we expecting. A talk on drupal modules, themes et al would be apt for beginners.
We have the venue booked for a very short time frame and we are not sure of the kind of audience that would attend the party. Lets have 2 good sessions and meet fellow drupalers in town. This should kick start the much needed community interaction to have regular meets and multiple full day conferences :)

@naren Oops. I mistyped your handle in another comment. How can we see the list of ppl who have confirmed coming to the drupal party.
Drupal Shops in Bangalore?
What are the various Drupal Shops in Bangalore? Members of this group work for any drupal development houses? Or do you know who do? I would like to see such ppl attend the party. That will allow for more interaction in the future and a forum for discussion of most relevant developments in the drupal community.
On another note, I am traveling to kerala for the next 4 days :) :) That would mean being away from all forms of modern communication :(
Hope I will see many more ppl confirming attendance and a couple of drupal shops join the band over the weekend.

I have enabled the list of participants on the eventbrite page.
IMO this time 3 hr window looks satisfactory....Going forward, we can think of increasing the duration of the event to day long
Thx. Just checked out the
Thx. Just checked out the list. There are about only 10 participants confirmed. (not counting myself twice :P).
From my experience of attending drupal meetups before, I am sure we can have 2 talks about drupal and not more in a 3 hr window. That is not a problem, in fact, I like the idea of calling this a drupal party, where drupalers in town can connect. Once we have some traction in the community, we could have longer events.
So far we have one confirmed session by Anil on Drupal search with Apache Solr. I can do a session on module development or any other topic if we do not have other volunteers in the next week. Personally, I am looking forward more listen than speak :) For that reason I am a little disappointed not to see the umpteen drupal shops in town here.
@wikidkaka I am willing to do
@wikidkaka
I am willing to do a presentation on "Theming in D7". It won't take more than 30 mins. so still you can go ahead with one small talk even if it is not on module development (we can save it for later).
That sounds great!! Why do
That sounds great!! Why do you want to stick to the 30 mins time frame? There should be a lot to talk about themeing in D7. With all the UI/UX improvements in it, a comprehensive session on this would capture everybodies interest. My vote is then for having the 2 talks - drupal + apache solr AND D7 themeing and UI. And again (yeah.. i am the pain-in-the-ass-type sometimes ;)) I would love to have the party going on for longer than 3 hrs :)
I am also thinking of ways to make it more fun. Does not look like many beginners would be attending this party. So we can have things like super rapid fire D-quiz (that sounds more geeky than fun.. but in my head I can see this would not be that bad)
hi guys i will be in
hi guys
i will be in bamgalore from 20-25 june.. any chances that the meetup can be scheduled on jun 20 instead of jun 19 ?
i would really not want to miss this :)
I have no qualms moving the
I have no qualms moving the party from 19 to 20. But this needs to be addressed by @naren. He is the one who has got the venue arranged.
Even if a reschedule would not be possible, we could still catch up with you on 29th at some hangout. What say?
Aaa.. I meant 20th and not
Aaa.. I meant 20th and not 29th. We should be allowed to edit comment here :P
hmmm
As D7 is still in alpha last I checked perhaps we should push the D7 'parties' back a bit? IMHO we may not have time for advanced D7 talks, D6 talks AND stuff for beginners. We don't even have that big a 'party' or enough room to make different tracks viable. Lets wait till the event fills up and then poll people - a mail asking for interest and experienced (modules. themes etc) even. I feel like there won't be too many beginners but that's a wild guess. But it's a start and I'd personally love to check out D7 theming, lets see who else are willing to give talks.
Naren - Theming in D7 (30 mins)
Anyone for tackling the Apache Solr and/or Memcache talks?
Anyone for tackling the Performance-Scaling talks?
Anyone for tackling the advanced E-commerce talks?
Anyone for tackling the other D7 related talks such as new functionality etc?
Anyone for tackling the beginners module development talks?
Anyone for tackling the beginners theme development talks?
Lets check out who can talk on what and then decide what talks to have! Feedback?
Well.. even though its called
Well.. even though its called Drupal Meet Bangalore. I think we can pull in people from every where. It all depends on how well we inform people. Last time i wen for a PHP meet up[ Don't ask me how it wen. It was Organized by Microsoft ] we had people coming from all over South India
And the registration count is intimidating. We need to let people know that this is happening, and something called Drupal Bangalore Exists. Even though Anil Sagar started it as a simple GtG its good that things are building up into something bigger.
I agree with you
Hi Raj arjun,
I completely agree with you. We need to spread the word. I just now posted about Drupal Meetup in PHP Bangalore User Group here. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/bang-phpug and here http://www.meetup.com/Bangalore-PHP-Users/. And response is amazing!! Just 5 tickets left :-)
@Guys: Please spread the word about our meetup in groups related to php, linux, opnsource in bangalore.
@Raj Arjun: I remember you are telling posting this in Drupal india group. If not posted, please do so. Thanks in advance :-)
Cheers,
Anil Sagar

ok in that case lets keep my session as a wild card number. Lets see if we can find some time to squeeze it in.
Besides even if i am not going to get a chance to blaber, i aint gona zip up a sit there; making life easy for the other presenters.
Lets make it as interactive as we can :)

As i see there aint much Drupal activity in India. There were some but nothings caught ppls eyes. SO lets make D-BUG a benchmark in Drupal meets.
The first timers always meet up in coffee shops so no worries of wad we gona do on 19. But from then on we can plan things up.
Cheers to every one whoes part of it!!
See you all on 19th!!

Hey it would be great to have a talk on drupal development methods and practices. In this short drupal party we are having in town many sessions will not fight. There are so far 2 confirmed talks. One from naren and the other from anil. You could be the third. :)

Hey All,
Nice to c the new group. I am a Drupal newbee and looking forward to join the group. I guess DBUG has been finalized (serves the purpose as well as kills d bugs... :) )
But I guess tickets are already gone... probably will c everybody during the next meet. Please keep posting the comments here and it would be great, if there is a dedicated website/forum.
****
Guys. iv got many .. asking me for a ticket into this conference. and as far as i know its limited and is filled.
can we do something about this?
@naren @anil We have to decide something about the numbers. If its open we will get good numbers i guess that is what we want at the 1st meet up. Later on we can decide on organizing body or something.. which will take things forward from then on.
Please pitch in
I really dont like a lot of good drupalers being kept out just cos they didnt know about this. Also this will allow others to spread the news.
Thanks
Aj
me also getting some

this time, constraints are there. we can increase the number of seats +5, if it helps.
I agree that we need to decide on some structure/ organizing body as raj_arjun has suggested.
In this meeting, we can discuss it.
