Documents storage format

Hi,

I need to put together a solution to store health documents for the company I work with. Drupal is the platform, but I am not sure in what format should I store the documents. Documents will be viewed from the web (remotely), but also locally in the office.

Real life situation:

Currently implemented features

Modules for DMS

After reading Hariska2@drupal.org's comment about creating a rudimentary DMS module, I was thinking about wanting just such a thing. (It is part of the reason for establishing this group.)

However, by creatively assembling a few modules it is possible to provide a limited amount of functionality. I've created this group to discuss strategies for managing documents in Drupal.
