making those gig sales count towards soundscan, OCC, chart-track

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to start a discussion about making gig sales of albums/singles/eps count towards weekly soundscan/occ/chart track sales figures.

Especially for album launch type gigs, where it's standard to sell a lot of albums as the audience leaves the venue. In-stores can be a practical workaround, but, invariably it's a short set and you're at the behest of the retailer with what you can/can't do.

For small labels and independent bands, it is important to make every sale count. Not paramount, but, it is worthwhile, I think, to try and make every sale count towards the weekly charts.

Install profiles for various art/music setups

What's an install profile and why is it important?

An install profile is a way of pre-configuring drupal right out of the box for a specific purpose or community. You can think of it as a template for a new drupal site. After you install drupal, the site will be pre-configured and customized out of the box (i.e. it will install and configure modules for you). The whole idea is to help you get from point A to B much faster. So if you are a band or musician looking to use drupal, you don't have to worry about figuring out how to download, install, and configure each module from scratch. You pick the install profile closest to your needs, and wham! Instant, functional site, with virtually no setup. Of course you will still have to know how to configure and customize Drupal to fit your specific needs if you want to make changes, but it sure will save a ton of time during installation and setup.

This is important for art and music communities - especially those that are non-technical - because it provides rapid deployment of very useful Drupal sites and minimize the headaches associated with installation.

Does a band really need a Drupal site?

So let's say I am in a band that wants to grow in terms of fan base & sales. Money is tight. Is it worth it spending the resource to have a Drupal site? What is the low hanging fruit in terms of benefit? Can any consulting firms (e.g. Dublin's) speak to how easy is it to realize ROI for laying out the cash to get coll Drupal site + other direction?

Thanks,
Dado

Playlist module for 4.7 released!

After a complete rewrite and countless sleepless nights, the playlist module (toolkit, module) is now available for 4.7! Needs testing though :)

Features:
1) iTunes podcast/xspf/m3u/pls feeds generated on the fly, with full metadata support
2) album artwork can now be integrated (through URL)
3) xspf flash players for each feed, including popup players for each
4) audio browser, similar to iTunes, used to search audio tags and find the audio to add to playlists
5) upload new audio files to playlists on the fly with an inline uploader
6) listening station: an xspf flash player block that has a dropdown select to listen to different playlists on the site
