I will be proposing a BOF about doing science on and through Drupal at the Portland DrupalCon... I hope to see you there! Let me know if you have any agenda items I should add to the BOF description.

Our research group, the UC Berkeley Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, began building up a Drupal site (http://seti.berkeley.edu) a few years ago to support both scientists in our group and outreach to the general public. We could use some help cleaning up the UI, organizing content and upgrading from Drupal 6 to 7. Ideally you would be located in the SF Bay area and could meet with our group in person, and would be willing to take on this pet project for an extended period of time (not a lot of hours, just be willing to work with us over time).

Looking for input as to what people want to explore at the Badcamp session, Science on Drupal. What is your vision for doing science using Drupal? What successes have you had? What problems do you face? We can build a new platform for Science 2.0 using Drupal and collective passion.

I came across this distribution in the Science Applications group. It seems to be primarily focused on creating communities of biomedical researchers and fostering research collaboration.

As this group has grown - 38 members last time I looked! - I thought it might be time to find out what everyone is up to. How are you using - or planning to use - Drupal in science? If you're running part of your lab with Drupal, how does it fit in with the rest of your systems? Are you using it to collaborate with other labs or institutions?

Keeping this short is tough (and off to a bad start ;) - at home (South Africa) there is huge social disparity which is perpetuated by only the well-off having access to resources that could potentially break the cycle. We are focused on education. Many students in poorer schools (>50%) do not even have sufficient textbooks. Enter our project - a note: without publishers', editors' and authors' royalties a hard cover 250 page books costs less than ZAR20 (<$2.5) to print:
