June SFDUG Round-up

UPDATE: Now contains link to Matt's screencast.
[I'm posting this as a new topic, since the contents may be of interest for people who did not or could not make it.]

Thanks to the folks who showed up last Monday for the June SF Drupal User's Group meeting at PariSoMa. Twelve in all, dealing with the heat to attend ever-informative and entertaining Matt Cheney talk about Swish-E (link to screencast below) Some of the topics we covered:

Neil Drumm / SFDUG screencast

Here's a screencast of Neil's presentation at last month's SFDUG (33 mins). I've posted it on a blip.tv channel, but I will link that with Archive.net so it gets posted there too for future use.

The Public Press, a new daily newspaper for the San Francisco Bay Area

The Public Press www.public-press.org is a concept for the next-generation daily newspaper. We're organizing a group of journalists, technologist and nonprofit managers to organize a new newsroom for the San Francisco Bay Area that would produce a Web site, daily print newspaper and collaborations with nonprofit news-gathering organizations locally and nationally. We've built a simple Drupal 6 site that we will be growing in the coming weeks and months, and we plan to start publishing on the Web using this platform.

SF DUG - Thanks!

[Update: I fixed the ISL link...] Thanks to Jeff (and Omar, Bob and Amy) from ISL for hosting this last Monday's Drupal User's Group!

We had a great demo of Jeff (SprSquish)'s User Relationships module - in Drupal 6, even! (With requisite live demo code barf "Oops, gotta fix that"! :-) ).

San Francisco Drupal Users Group?

I'm considering hosting the SF Drupal Users Group - I've got the prime space and enough knowledge to make me dangerous - and I want to find out what the interest is. The space is PariSoMa, on Howard at 10th.

I'm thinking of making it alternate with the Berkeley DUG, and given when I'm in the SF office, I'm thinking 2nd Monday of the month.

My personal preference is right after work - 5-7pm, mostly because it's a working space and we couldn't do a mid-day meeting right there (unlike East Bay). It also then allows a different set of people to participate.

Updated: DrupalMentor Open Work Session

Start:
2006-08-28 18:00 - 21:00 US/Pacific

[Update: We've changed the date to Monday, Aug 28th. This lines us up with BarCampEarth (http://barcamp.org/BarCampEarth) too!]

Update II: We have a location!
3 Dollar Bill Cafe
in the LGBT Center
1800 Market, at Octavia
6-9pm

What better way for some new users to see how things work on Drupal than an open work night? A couple of us will be working on some (basic) Drupal projects we've been neglecting for a while (like upgrading to 4.7, or installing some new modules, etc - i.e. no coding), and we want to do it in an open space like a bar, so new users and people who want to learn more in an open environment can just come, hang out, ask questions, etc.

You don't need to bring a laptop, but if you have one, you can probably play a bit with some of the things we're working on. We might be able to get a bona-fide expert in the room, or at least promise to be available online during the session.

RSVP so we can make sure we've picked a big enough spot (and if we get more than 4 people signed up I will consider this a raging success....)
