triDUG

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Only local images are allowed. Our mission is to connect Drupal users in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, North Carolina and surrounding areas. We get together monthly for presentations, site demonstrations, and hack nights. Our goal is to help new Drupal users get up to speed, foster the development of existing Drupal designers and Developers, and contribute to the larger Drupal community. The Research Triangle has a big concentration of technical folks, universities, and start-ups and we want to expose as many people as possible to Drupal and all that it offers.

Mini Camp Next Steps?

At tonight's TriDUG February 2014 monthly meetup at Bull City CoWorking was tentative agreement that we more seriously consider holding our own mini-camp, as started in my post here: https://groups.drupal.org/node/405333. We had identified a number of desirable attributes of the mini camp format; in particular, keeping the format simple so that can better make one happen. We have a number of options to consider and we agreed that using G.D.O. is the best starting point for these discussions. So I'm getting the ball rolling with the next few posts.

Monthly Meetup - Durham

Start:
2014-02-19 18:30 America/New_York
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

We've got the place, but need a topic. We'll spend part of the time doing lightening talks - that worked really well at our last meetup - if you've got something cool you'd like to share with the group in 5 minutes or less, bring it on!

If anyone else has something they are ready to present on, let me know ASAP. Otherwise, it may be a pick of some good online content on a topic. Ping me if there is anything specific you'd like to explore. I'll post the topic closer to the meeting time.

Please join us - it is a great way to network and enjoy the company of other Drupal-ites!

Stuck in mud-camp?

We've been struggling with organizing a TriDUG camp. I listened to this podcast this morning, with no less than NC native Thomas Lattimore extol the "mini camp" process

http://drupaleasy.com/podcast/2013/12/drupaleasy-podcast-119-it-goes-bod...

Thomas and John P. Weiksnar talk about a more stripped-down format that sounds easier to get off the ground; from the podcast description page; "a new-ish idea that provides many of the features and benefits of a traditional DrupalCamp with much less planning and overhead."

Any thoughts?

QSA company recommendations to provide PCI compliance auditing services

Hello,

I'm looking to see if anyone has any recommendations for qualified security assessor companies to perform a PCI audit for a hosting infrastructure and Drupal application. The PCI security council lists 321 such companies so I'd like to narrow it down to a few that folks have had a good experience with so I can get some quotes.

Thanks in advance.

Phillip

Has anyone used the Flickr Sync module?

Exploring some media options, and Flickr Sync looked like it might be a valid way of storing our photo media. https://drupal.org/project/flickrsync

Any opinions?

Can you suggest best practice for Main Menu organization?

Our existing website has a pretty clear menu structure:

Home
Tours
Animals
Education
...

Tours has a sub-menu of the different tours we offer, plus tour relevant items like Directions, Area Attractions, etc. So in the new site, if the viewer clicks on the Tours option in the menu (rather than clicking on one of the sub-menu items), I would like a page that lists the sub-menu links with a summary.

To do this, I created a view for a tour page that lists the node title and summary, and then used Views PHP module to sort the view by menu weight.

content nodes or views?

When you create content, you also create a page with that content.

Today I added a date field and scheduled it to repeat so that I could use it in a calendar. However, when I look at the content page - it displays all the repeat dates and I only want the start date displayed. I can't seem to find a way to fix this on the content page, but I think I might be able to do it in a view.

Is the page that's created for content the page you're intended to use on the site, or are you supposed to create a view for that content type?

Thanks Guys! Really made some progress today.

random people creating user accounts

So, last week all of a sudden I had a bunch of random people attempt to create accounts in my "non-live" site. When I had to rebuild the site, I'd forgotten to put it in maintenance mode.

But, since there shouldn't be any links out there pointing to this test site, I suspect the attempts at creating accounts are spammish. Is this normal? how best to handle?

thanks, Amanda

getting Media going

hey guys,

I was trying to get Media going so I could start playing with it, and I went to the Media project page, looked through the required modules and installed them individually, then installed the Media module. I went for the 7.x-2.0-alpha2 version because I'm in the Media group and noticed that a lot of people said they were using this version just fine.

I went to add a photo to my sample animal profile (content type), and after I clicked select I got this error:

Simple Organizing and Relating Data in Drupal 7

Hi TriDUG- good to meet you at my first meeting on Wednesday!

I have some really elementary questions. I'm used to a relational database background- with parent and child tables related with ID fields, and I'm having problems correlating this to the Drupal environment.

For instance- we will have pages for each Species, and pages for each Animal. Species data would have fields like average weight, habitat, range, prey, etc. Animals would have data such as Animal name, birthdate, how they came to Carolina Tiger, personality, and of course a Species ID field.
