- About Me
Chief Assessor at The Learning Machine Ltd a qualifications awarding body accredited by the UK government. I set up the INGOTs (International Grades - Open Technologies) project as a single focus to solve several problems. 1. Improve the quality of IT learning in schools with more rewards for learners and less bureaucracy for teachers. 2. Increase knowledge, understanding and capability in the use of open systems including FOSS, Open Standards and general understanding of intellectual property. 2. Provide an income stream to support the development of free and open learning resources. Project has some private investment funding and recently awarded an EU grant for Transfer of Innovation with that project worth 350,000 Euros. Partners in Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic and Spain. We also have partners in Malaysia, South Africa, India, Canada, United States. We are interested in anyone that thinks they can set up a sustainable business base on IT qualifications in schools or further education for adults in their locality.
My background is that I am a qualified teacher, Physics, Mathematics, Physical Education. MSc in Education Management. I was a member of the team that devised the national specialist schools programme in the UK and I founded the professional association for independent school inspectors in the UK. I was a school inspector and led inspection teams for a few years back in the nineties. Won the Midlands Region Small Business of the Year Award in 2000 and a DTi Smart Award for software development a bit later. I was formerly British Powerlifting Champion and lifted for GB in 2 World Championships winning Silver and Bronze medals. Still get to the gym 3 or 4 times a week to keep fit but at 54 I'm doing more cardio type training than strength training these days and the INGOTs take up most of the rest of my time.
