We had our second meeting on a chilly, icy night on January 11, 2011. Thanks to all who braved the cold and slippery ground to get to the meeting (and especially to Warren Keuffel, who tried to make it but couldn't safely attend because of the weather and parking problems).

In attendance:

Jennifer Dixey - Drupal Developer and LMS Support, WWU
John Sechrest - Executive Director, Northwest Innovation Resource Center
Andrew Shaffer - Founder and CTO, NimbleMachine
David Sienko - Media Developer, Tulalip Lushootseed Project

We discussed what everyone is doing, has done, or hopes to do with Drupal. Jennifer is gearing up to help WWU with preliminary steps into Drupal 7. John hopes to leverage Drupal to help him in his mission to grow Bellingham's local business community. Andrew is a veteran Drupal developer who is busy converting a local creative shop from WP to Drupal. David is continuing in his quest to find the best platform for a new multi-lingual site that will accommodate the special characters required for Lushootseed.

We also had a spirited discussion about Drupal, WP, security, and upgrade paths, and talked a bit about the new Drupal 7 and what it means for the future of Drupal.

Speaking of Drupal 7, during the meeting we threw together a quick D7 sandbox site in Drupal Gardens. That D7 site will not be a real destination site for our group, but it does point here, and to our Meetup site, for anyone who stumbles upon it looking for us. If you've been to one of our meetings, watch your email for an invite to join the site!

We are still considering a meeting night change, so please vote in our meeting night poll! (You'll need to join the Meetup group to vote in the poll. If you've already voted, please consider voting again, as we have eliminated one option, 2nd Tuesdays, from consideration due to conflict with another local web dev group's meetings. We have also added a new option, 1st Tuesdays, as an alternative.)

We will hold our next meeting in a location with easier/adjacent parking, and food and drink service - TBA. If you have ideas for a great location in Bellingham for this meeting, send me a direct message on the Meetup site or here. The Meetup site lists some ideas in a new blog post, so hop over there if you haven't already read it.)

I'll be reserving the location as soon as we know the date of our next meeting, so please speak up now if you have any preferences or aversions that you'd like me to consider.

Jennifer
