When I went to DrupalCon last year in SF, I was lucky enough to take a session with Chris Shattuck. I knew he was beginning a series of online videos about module building and hooks (buildamodule), but I wasn't ready for them then. Now I'm ready, and I've come back to them. The videos have multiplied and are for Drupal 7, and they are just fantastic! Step-by-step, clear, concise and easy to follow. He has a subscription set up, so you can stop paying when you've gone through the videos. A book is good, but there's something about a video that takes it a step further. (Chris Charlton's excellent theming videos and Lullabot's videos also come to mind -- I'm using the knowledge about Devel debugging I picked up from Lullabot's advanced videos as I work through the module videos.)

I see so many arrays in the Drupal code, but putting it all together wasn't clear. In one of the first videos Chris S. explained all the components in the array, and then copied the URL out of the variable parameter, and pasted it into a window, and there was the page from his module displayed! Bells went off, and now I can put the pieces together. In the past I've learned how to add additional Fusion settings for the Fusion's theme setting page on my own, but now I know how to a settings page for a module. Putting all the pieces together... Pretty cool.

Anyway, I'm not for organizing a study group -- I'm a person who learns best on my own -- but what a resource!

I think we need to share more sources of learning about Drupal here on the LA Groups list and help others bring up their skill level -- and it doesn't take hundreds of dollars or organized meetings to learn Drupal.
