Informal social/meetup for education users/developers attending DrupalCon PDX

Well, it's no BoF or unconference, but at least it's a bit of free food and drink during DrupalCon PDX...

Clarity Innovations (Drupal in education enthusiasts since version 4.7) is hosting an informal meetup/social to celebrate, connect and bond with those of us that use Drupal for all things related to K12 and higher education.

The informal meetup takes place Wednesday (5/22) evening, from 6pm-8pm, at the Burnside Brewing Company, a short walk from the convention center (and conveniently on the way to the Pantheon & New Relic Party just a block away).

Why do you go to Drupal Camps?

I go to Drupal camps because I know that if I learn one new thing or meet one cool person who's willing to share their experiences with me, then it was a successful use of my time. Whatever I learn doesn't even have to be Drupal related, the point is I'm a wiser person for having immersed myself into the community. I organize Drupal camps because I want others to have that same opportunity, and it's rewarding for me to see people get together and share their brilliant ideas and work.

So, why do you go to Drupal Camps (big, small, local, international)?

DrupalCon Portland cohort and BoF strategy

Hi everybody, it looks like there isn't going to be an unconference happening at DrupalCon this year. It has always been put together by bonobo's awesome energy and commitment (and we should all thank him for those events), but since we won't have a landmark all day event this time, we are going to have to work just a little harder to network with .edu folks.

Error Messages

Currently when someone puts a invalid username or passward in the the login form it only returns a red box around the username and password box. I am designing a site for a church that wants to display a message about the error. Is there a way someone can direct me how to do this?

Drupal in Education - New Website & Google+ Community

With the use of Drupal growing so rapidly in the Education field and with there being close to 80 people at the Drupacon Denver Education BOF, I think that it is time for us to unite and built a great community where we can all share ideas.

Again we are in the "very" beginning phases of building our community but would really like some input from as many people as possible.

Currently we have a website with just a form to collect information and a Google+ community.

Website: www.drupalined.com

Google Plus: https://plus.google.com/communities/102902903124131117699

Drupal Books (i.e. content collected in a book module book) in Education.

I've been playing with the idea of using Drupal as a content management system for Educational content, thinking of any multipage content from a few pages of formatted notes to accompany a lecture to 100+ page online textbooks. I know there are a number of great projects out there that cover this to varying extents, so I didn't want to reinvent what they have done but to look at what might enhance this part of their functionality.

Learning content authoring system (LCAS) group

There's a new group at:

http://groups.drupal.org/learning-content-authoring-system

It's for creating a distro to help authors write learning content, like Web sites that replace textbooks. The distro will have tools to help authors follow learning science principles, like outcome-based learning.

An learning content authoring system (LCAS) is not the same as an LMS. An LCAS instance will house content for, say, one course. Multiple LMS will use LTI/SCORM/TinCan to load content from the same LCAS instance.

Drupal in Higher Education

I am the web developer for a graduate program at St. Mary's University of MN. We are currenly using Drupal for our program. It replaced two sites, one was written in perl and the other used moodle. Our new Drupal site was developed to be hub for collaborative learning. I am looking at ways to expand the use of Drupal for the entire university. I am looking for ideas and avenues to explore for using Drupal for the website for an entire university. I would also appreciate some thoughts on Drupal 6 vs Drupal 7 vs Drupal 8 for use in developing a website for a university.

Getting Started in Drupal

I am just getting started in Drupal and this is my first entry. I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge. I publish a textbook that is used in many high schools and colleges. I now want to create an online component that supplements the textbook. Within the next few years I may want to eliminate the text, and create a complete online curriculum. I believe I need a website, a course authoring program, a CMS and LMS. Can Drupal support all of these components and if so, can they be integrated into existing delivery systems that high schools and colleges use? Thank you for your comments.

Drupal distro for designing courses

(This is going out on several channels. Apologies if you get more than one copy.)

There are many Web sites and tools for authoring textbooks: iBooks Author, Flat World Knowledge, etc. Good tech, but there's a fundamental flaw in their specs. They're based on an obsolete view of learning.

Education researchers have shown how we can help students learn STEM skills (STEM: science, tech, engineering and math). Deep learning, formative feedback, other things. We need to redesign authoring software based on these research findings.

Drupal Camp NJ Education BoF

http://www.drupalcampnj.org/ is a Drupal Camp held at an educational institution. In my mind, there had better be a lot of Drupal in education fans there! Planting this flag in the ground to let others know I'm going but mostly to provide an initial discussion thread as to what topics people would like to cover in BoFs at the event.
