Randal Schwartz, host of the Floss Weekly podcast, will presenting a very thorough introduction to git at the UUASC-LA meetup in Culver City on Thursday,

Introduction to Git

Thursday, Jan. 5th, 7-9 pm

        Media Temple

8520 National Blvd. Ste. 101
Culver City, California, 90232

We are excited to kick off the new year with a very special speaker
covering an important topic.

Randal Schwartz, the uber perl monger/author and host of the
FLOSS Weekly podcast, will be presenting an in depth introduction
to the open source distributed version control system of the decade, Git.

Designed with an emphasis on speed by Linus Torvalds in 2005, git
can be used to manage simple repositories of scripts and
is used in the larger open source projects such as the Linux Kernel,
Perl, and Gnome. Git's ease of cloning complete repositories and
ability to post enhnancements has led to a new generation
source code hosting sites such as github and gitourious that
help drive open source software innovation.

In this presentation Randal will provide a quick overview of the history,
then delve into a detailed review of the features and how git can
be used to manage code for various sized projects.

Randal Schwartz is a renowned expert on the Perl and Smalltalk
programming languages, having contributed to a dozen top-selling books
on the subject, and over 250 magazine articles. Schwartz runs a Perl
and Smalltalk training and consulting company (Stonehenge Consulting
Services, Inc of Portland, Oregon). Schwartz hosts the successful
FLOSS Weekly podcast, covering Free/Libre Open Source Software by
interviewing the project leaders and legends in the industry. Schwartz
serves on the Squeak Smalltalk Oversight Board, and the LinuxFund
Board. And he's a pretty good Karaoke singer, winning contests
regularly.

After the meeting, you are invited to mingle with many of the chapter members
at UUASC-LA's new after meeting location once we figure out where that will be.

WARNING: People may take photographs and shoot video of UUASC-LA
meetings and social events. If someone is absolutely opposed to having
his or her photograph taken, that person needs to please speak with
