User Group Organizers Supporting the DA?

Hey gang...
I'm sitting right now in the monthly meeting of the Drupal Branding And Marketing Committee and one of our objectives is to see Drupal Association Memberships promoted at Camps and Local Meetups.

To that end... I wanted to ask it here.

Are you, as an organizer, promoting the DA Membership as a way to support the DA and the Drupal project?

I'd be curious to hear who is and what your experiences have been.

I'll be posting some instructions in here on how you can get involved in that process, but for now I'd love to hear your thoughts and stories.

THNX!

What's most important on a group page?

Hello! I'm gathering some research on what is the most important information on a group page on g.d.o.

I would like to hear from group organizers especially, but group member opinions are also useful.

List the 5 most important pieces of information, in order of importance, (excluding title ;)), and your role, e.g.

  1. Something
  2. Something else
  3. That thing
  4. The block showing the stuff
  5. More stuff
    Role: Organizer (or member)

I'm looking to gather your feedback early next week (Tuesday May 22) and will use it to inform a prototype design for Drupal Commons.

Local User Groups Distribution?

So we've been talking about creating a [Non-g.d.o.] site for DrupalPGH for a while now, and the idea of creating a distribution to share with other local user groups would seem to fulfill that need, give us an interesting topic to discuss and build, and create a tool for other user groups. Question is, what should such a distro look like? Are other user groups interested in such a thing? I know many groups have non-g.d.o. sites, the content and functionality seems to vary quite a bit.

Models of local or regional user group websites?

What are some examples of regional Drupal websites? And what purposes do they serve? What are other open source communities doing?

Please edit and add yours!

[We're considering making a site for Drupal Ireland and considering these models - h]

  1. Community sites. They provide the space for community interaction, event planning, discussion.
  2. Public facing welcome mats for decision makers
  3. Websites for the regional association or group.
  4. Are there any which are replacements for the Drupal.org Marketplace? listing service providers for an area or region.

Regional Drupal Camps

So, we have a lot of Drupal Camps going on in the Midwest this year. This is a GREAT thing! It means the local communities are getting strong enough to start hosting these camps. I know this year our camp could have been a lot larger, our venue this year was big enough to handle something MUCH larger, but as I'm sure a number of others out there are experiencing some balance of sponsors, speakers, and attendees that may or may not already be committed to another Drupal Camp.

Conference Organizing Distribution (COD) code sprint on October 8 & 9, 2011 in Downtown Los Angeles #CODD7

Start:
2011-10-08 10:00 - 2011-10-09 10:00 America/Los_Angeles
Event type:
User group meeting

Join members of the Los Angeles Drupal user group in the Drupal community's second code sprint for updating COD (Conference Organizing Distribution) to Drupal 7. This is a joint event produced by LA Drupal's Pro Drupal 7 Development book study group and Droplabs, a Drupal coworking / hackerspace in Downtown Los Angeles.

Join us in person or online!

During the code sprint, we'll be gathered in the #drupal-cod IRC channel and all are welcome to join us. The event organizers and attendees will also be checking Twitter for feedback and questions that mention @UseCOD or use the #CODD7 hashtag.

About COD, the Conference Organizing Distribution

COD is used for building conference and event websites. It's built on Drupal, the highly-regarded open-source web framework and content management system, and each component is independent of each other. This means you can disable the features you don't need, whether it's selling tickets or listing sponsors or allowing session voting.

Just like Drupal, COD is free and can be used by anyone. There is a very long list of sites that use COD, from the DrupalCon Chicago and DrupalCon London conferences to RIACon, Brisbane Innovation Camp, the Meego Conference, the Bay Area Drupal Camp, and our own Drupal Design Camp LA.

Here are just some of the great features in COD:

We're already using COD on Drupal 6 for the Drupal Design Camp LA 2011 website and we plan to use COD on Drupal 7 for Drupal Design Camp LA 2012. COD is not yet ready for this but we're not afraid of rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty.

Help us improve COD and you'll also be helping numerous Drupal contrib projects, including Location, Signup and Commerce, as well as other organizations and conferences, such as DrupalCon, SCALE 10x and DrupalCamps around the world including our own Drupal Design Camp LA.

COD on Drupal 7 Battleplans

Pre-sprint discussion and planning

We've already begun discussing and planning several parts of the code sprint during the first 15 minutes of each Pro Drupal 7 Development book study group meeting. To join the conversation, click the Signup button below, post a comment below, contact any of the event organizers at the top of this page or just drop by the Pro Drupal 7 Development study group some Monday night.

The attendance of the book study group is already capped for this book group cycle but you're more than welcome to drop by, talk with us and work on your projects at Droplabs alongside other Drupaleros.

Detailed Descriptions of Meetups

When editing and adding meetups below, be as descriptive as you'd like. It may be helpful to businesses and traveling community members for them to have as much information as possible.

Frontend Drupal / Design 4 Drupal

The Frontend Drupal / Design 4 Drupal meetups are on the 4th Tuesday and are usually in Culver City, CA. They focus on design, theming, usability, typography and other frontend-related topics.

Downtown Los Angeles Drupal

With enough notice, Downtown Los Angeles Drupal organizers can produce special events at Droplabs on the 4th Wednesday in Downtown Los Angeles.

Droplabs already hosts several Drupal meetups each month, including the High Performance Drupal and general Downtown Los Angeles Drupal meetups. These meetups have had attendance of between 20-65 attendees.

San Gabriel Valley Drupal

The San Gabriel Valley Drupal meetups are on the 4th Thursday in San Gabriel Valley (usually Pasadena, CA). They have a general focus and have an attendance of between 15-30 attendees.

San Diego Drupal Users Group

The San Diego Drupal Users Group meetups are on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at the San Diego Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. We have a mixed structure with some planned content and some ad-hoc content, and we usually have a small social meetup at the Prado down the street afterwards.

San Diego North County DUG

The San Diego North County DUG meetups are on the 4th Thursday of every month in Carlsbad, CA at the NAMM headquarters in the Museum Of Making Music. This meetup averages about 10-15 users, most of which are seasoned Drupalers. Content is purely ad-hoc, and you may be asked to talk about what you've been doing recently.
