Meeting notes for those not able to attend the August meeting.

The August DrupalACT meeting was held on 7th of August at AMA House in Barton. Attendance was about 10 people (down from the usual number). Surprisingly 50% were new faces - the regulars stayed home to keep warm on a very cold night :)

Presentation
Tim Siers and Reuben Turk, from Oxide Interactive presented: How we used Drupal to build an amazing dynamic image gallery with a little help from backbone.js

Presentation slides are available here, https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1rPHq208FSKBRUs1nKakfOqbf119NY3t-...

Tim and Reuben then went on to explain how Drupal Services was used in earlier projects to integrate with Flash, providing a unique user experience, examples being:
http://www.canberradiaspora.com.au
http://treasure-explorer.nla.gov.au

Then the advantages of and techniques for deploying Drupal and Backbone.js for a more contemporary website were presented. Reuben went on to deconstruct how the Gallery for the Canberra University website was developed, introducing the soon to be released Drupal modules that provide some of it's unique features, such as intelligent image focus and resizing. Definitely worth checking out at, http://www.canberra.edu.au/alumni

So keep an eye out for a few new Drupal modules to be released from Oxide which support these features, via a announcement on Drupal Planet.

Other business
There were a number of items raised for discussion.

  1. DrupalCon Sydney Event - I expect a lot of us will be going
  2. DrupalCon Sydney Volunteering- details about volunteering an general input was discussed
  3. DrupalACT website - the idea was raised and discussed
  4. Recruiters in our midst - we have been getting a few recruiters joining the DrupalACT Facebook group. So this was discussed, the general consensus was that there are other better places on the Internet to look for jobs and recruit.

We'd like to thank Australian Medical Association (AMA) including Michael, Josh and Adam for making the conference facilities available to the group.
