Removing side bar content ("Recent Galleries")

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hi there,

When I create new content of type "Basic page" the new page is always displayed with blocks for "News", "Events" and "Recent Galleries" in the left hand side bar.

I'm trying to understand how I would approach building a page with, say, no "Recent Galleries" section.

I'm new to Drupal but have slowly got my head around some of the powerful ideas in the software, including the use of Contexts, but I can't see where in the flow of things that this particular content is added.

As far as I can tell, the "Recent Galleries" section is the output of a view called "Group Images".

I've tried creating my own Content type, but pages I create with it all also display this side-bar content.

Cheers,

Simon

Bump.

I'd really value a quick pointer from someone on this.

Here's the essential question I'm trying to resolve.

What part of Julio/Drupal is responsible for putting content in the left sidebar?

ie: If I add a new Basic Page, the new page always displays a "News" block and an "Events" block in the left sidebar.

I'd like to know what part of the software is doing this so that I can work out how to create new content that does not have these items in the left sidebar.

Cheers,

Simon

Context

Context controls block placement in Julio.

Excellent. Thanks for the

Excellent. Thanks for the tip. I've now worked out how to identify and remove arbitrary blocks from the left sidebar of a page by modifying the block's context.

I'm now researching how to remove the left sidebar altogether, so I can reclaim the space for this particular page. There seem to be a couple of different ways to do this, but I'm on the right track.

Kudos to you guys for the Julio distribution by the way, it's great.

Cheers,

Simon

Is it possible to remove the "Recent Galleries" from all pages at once?

Solved!

For those who want to do this — just enable Views UI, go to admin/structure/views and disable the block for "Group:Images"

Simon - I was researching removing a sidebar item Recent Galleries from some pages and avoiding it being added to new pages automatically. Mind sharing how you manipulated the settings to accomplish this?
Thanks, Ellen

One way: Go to

One way:

Go to admin/structure/views (you may have to enable the views module first)

  • Look for the "Group Images" view.
  • Select "Disable" on the right hand side

Another way (untested)

Use contexts and the context block disable plugin: https://drupal.org/project/context_block_disable

I hope this helps.
