Core update procedure for OpenPublish

I have successfully updated Drupal core previously by deleting and replacing all folders and files except the 'sites' folder.

I have installed OpenPublish today and tried the same approach with to update Drupal core from 7.16 to 7.17.

When I initiate update.php I get the following warnings:

Notice: Undefined index: highlighted in include() (line 126 of C:\wamp\www\example.net.au\openpublish\modules\system\page.tpl.php).
Notice: Undefined index: sidebar_first in include() (line 138 of C:\wamp\www\example.net.au\openpublish\modules\system\page.tpl.php).
Notice: Undefined index: sidebar_second in include() (line 144 of C:\wamp\www\example.net.au\openpublish\modules\system\page.tpl.php).

Then when I go online it seems that OpenPublish has lost track of the theme and stylesheets and the following warnings appear:

Notice: Undefined index: highlighted in include() (line 126 of C:\wamp\www\example.net.au\openpublish\modules\system\page.tpl.php).
Notice: Trying to get property of non-object in _theme_load_registry() (line 318 of C:\wamp\www\example.net.au\openpublish\includes\theme.inc).

Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong here with the core update of Drupal 7 within OpenPublish?

Check permissions

I think you need to check the permissions on the directories and files. When this happens to my installs, that's usually what it is.

profiles folder

Thank you for your permissions observation. I looked at that and changed a few folders but the same problem was there.

Just looking again at the folders in OpenPublish I noted that within the Profiles folder there was a folder called openpublish.

I copied that folder from the 7.16 installation into the Profiles folder in the 7.17 installation and now the site 'looks' ok with the gazette theme.

Does that mean that when we update from say 7.16 to 7.17 that we should retain both the 'sites' folder AND the 'profile' folder?

However something is not working right in the background. The following warning occurs when I run Status Reports:

Notice: Undefined index: name in system_requirements() (line 39 of C:\wamp\www\example.net.au\openpublish\modules\system\system.install).
Notice: Undefined index: version in system_requirements() (line 41 of C:\wamp\www\example.net.au\openpublish\modules\system\system.install).

When I then check available updates for modules it says they are all OK when I know that there are quite a few updates required.

profiles and sites

I just upgraded from 7.16 to 7.18 and simply retained the "sites" and "profiles" folders, and everything seemed to work OK.
