  1. What's the sprint date and location?
The Media Sprint will be held at the Mansueto offices in NYC, October 23 - 24.

  2. How does your sprint address a recognized need in Drupal development?
Improvements in media handling are a widely recognized need. Drupal 7 will include significant improvements, e.g., imagecache and other image handling in core, but major work remains. The project grows out of a user experience analysis process. The Media module grows out of discussions and sprints going back to a working group of developers starting in October 2008, with the hope of the large part of this work being core-worthy as a GUI API for other multimedia and file handling modules. In fact, the PHP Stream Wrappers going into core Drupal 7 came largely out of these ongoing sprints. Also, please see the D7UX Microproject - Media Library for D7 for the planned GUI for the module.

  3. What outputs are you aiming for? How will they be incorporated into Drupal core or contrib?
We aim to complete enough of the roadmap for the Media module to create a beta release of the module for Drupal 7, as outlined at the Media Road Map. All improvements will be incorporated into the Media module.

  6. What's the total cost of the sprint? And what specific costs would you like the DA to cover?
Total cost is estimated at $1200 including:
Use of space, donated by Mansueto: $unknown
Food, $200 (we plan to collect a pool from participants for this, already with volunteers)
    Travel, $1000
Accommodation, covered by individual participants, $unknown
Requested from DA: (based on known remote participants who at the time had no reimbursement for travel expenses and hadn't opted out of the request)
    Arthur Foelsche: $300 travel costs
Jonathan DeLaigle: $200 travel costs (Reimbursement available from other source)
Aaron Winborn: $90 travel costs (Reimbursement available from other source)

  7. If the DA recently sponsored a sprint in the same area of development, how does the new sprint build on the progress of the prior sprint?
This builds on progress in the ongoing media sprints held in NYC in January, March in Boston following Drupalcon, April and June in Denver, and July in Philadelphia. There was no DA funding for these sprints. Note that the results of the sprints have been quite successful, culminating both in ongoing progress for the Media API and for related patches for PHP Stream Wrappers going into core Drupal 7.

  8. What is the name and contact info (please send separately rather than posting) for a sprint coordinator who will take responsibility for reporting?
    Aaron Winborn

  9. Are you willing to post a brief follow-up report on groups.drupal.org about the sprint?
    Yes.
