This Saturday is our first Drupal Camp Chattanooga. Nov 9th 2013.
www.drupalcampchattanooga.com
Tickets are $25, and include lunch and a camp t-shirt. Buy on line now.
Held at Chattanooga State, registration opens at 8.00am
For the beginners track we have a whole days training "Drupal in a Day" included in the ticket price. This is a great way to get up to speed with Drupal and start building websites.
This training normally goes for $250/seat - so it's a bargain.
Bring a laptop.
Lots of other sessions too.
See you there !
Lee

point of order?
Would it not be the most respectful and and individually versatile etiquette to properly post events and notices about Chattanooga only in the Chattanooga groups, leaving the decision on whether or not to receive such information and emails to the individual whom may choose on his or her own to subscribe to Chattanooga or not?
While I respect your enthusiasm and the inclusive spirit of your Chattanooga-based posting to the Atlanta group, I would humbly request that your refrain from doing so in the future such as to honor the individual choice of some Atlanta members to NOT receive such messages, though respectfully wishing wellness and prosperity to our Northern neighbors. If we desired inclusion into neighboring cities, that choice should be ours individually, and not that of the neighboring event holders.
Thank you for your consideration.
Chattanooga
Especially given the proximity of Atlanta to Chattanooga, and it being the first Chattanooga Drupal Camp, I appreciate the invitation extended to the Atlanta Drupal group.
Delightful
Then per my suggested etiquette, you would exercise your free choice to join that group as well, thereby allowing those who do not share your opinion, such as myself, to remain ignorant and uninformed.
My point is to grant each individual maximum choice, as one size does not fit all.
We are at the mercy of the relational structure of the groups on this site and group membership is the defining key to associating oneself with such notifications.
I hold no malice towards Lee, and while I do not speak for all in the Atlanta group, I'd find it impossible to believe that I'm a dissenting movement of 1. But to whatever extent this opinion is held in minority, I believe it an opinion to be respected and so the motion to incorporate the new etiquette should be adopted with a gay enthusiasm of enlightenment toward consideration.
Really?
You talk about respect and post a comment like that ?
Atlanta is 2 hours away from Chattanooga. Makes it a day trip for ATL drupalers.
It's very relevant to Atlanta Drupal users.
It's very clearly not spam.
If you are not interested - ignore the post. Simple.
No need to get all worked up about it.
????
I'm very confused by your tone, but I apologize if I have offended.
Yes, while you are accurate with both your calculation in driving distance and your point of completing said driving in a single day, I contend that your next comment about relevance to the Atlanta Drupal Users Group is one of your personal opinion. This is an opinion which I do not share, and I suspect others in the Atlanta Drupal Users Group share as well. And while I'm not all worked up, I'd again submit that the most respectful etiquette, would be to honor that difference of opinion by allowing individual choice in subscriptions to your group, rather than forcing said posts justified by said opinion onto those who may feel differently.
That is all. Again, I thank you for your consideration to my opinion and wish you the very best of success with your event.
Chattanooga Drupal Camp
Neubian, you should speak for yourself, and not presume to speak for the Atlanta Drupal group.
Precedent is set and well established
I have attended 36 camps and will hit 39 before the year ends.
I have also helped to organized many of these camps, sometimes playing a minor role, other times being a key player.
In all the camps I've been a part of [even the ones I haven't, but I've seen the posts] it is very customary to cast a wider net on the Camp related posts. Mind you, I have seen some questionable ones. They weren't worth committing to my long-term memory, but nonetheless did strike a "huh?" reaction from a very few.
The post was ignored by those who deemed it noise. To my knowledge no one called anyone out and there was no need for a public debate about the rights of the individual vs. the standard practice of cross-posting camp related posts.
As a GDO moderator, I am asked in IRC from time to time to take a post down, delete a comment, or traffic other issues. I have never been asked to reign in a camp organizer for cross-posting to a group that is close [by all standards] to the originating group's events.
Lastly... I can assure you that the group managers and node-owner for the Atlanta group would prefer that the chattanooga posts be crossposted just as they were.
Neubian, you're not crazy here. We all know that GDO get's a lot of attention from recruiters, and from time to time some spammers will let loose and we moderators gotta spend way too much time cleaning up posts. It happens. We all share in your desire for a nice and tidy experience in our own GDO groups.
However, I can tell you that in 2014, there will likely be another Chattanooga camp. And when there is... You can expect another crosspost. Most ppl in the ATL group will wither appreciate it or not care.
That's the way it's always been and it works very well as we all work together to support each other's events.
I hope you feel like you've been listened to and responded to appropriately. You're welcome to continue any dialogue here or reach me directly via my GDO contact form. I'll gladly continue the conversation. ;-)
Thank you,
DougVann [responding personally, NOT as a GDO moderator]
fair enough
I'm sympathetic to the desires of camp organizers to fill their spots, and in no way did I want administrative force used to remove posts. As someone who isn't jumping in the car to go anywhere except for Atlanta meetings at maybe a 10% attendance, I was seeking to achieve a mutually beneficial but voluntary exchange. While due to a lack of filtering options, I don't agree with your conclusion, I understand that you believe the greater good is served this way. I'd just like to opt out.
I enjoyed your response, though I'd recommend you reserve judgement on my sanity until a later date. The lack of ability for me to opt out of things intended for the greater good may push me to a place where I make Roger Rabbit look sane.
Insight from Drupal.org
Read about organizing a camp: https://drupal.org/node/247972 I know it says "post production" (maybe it would be a good idea to edit the page to include etiquette for "pre production" or advertising) but at the end of that page it says let the "world" know, so by Lee letting ATL know he was doing what he was supposed to do. It's not like he is making money or anyone makes money off of these events, they do it for the COMMUNITY! And that's the best part of being a Drupal Developer, right?
Thanks,
Jeremy Burns

Enjoyed talking with you as well!
Dennis,
It was great discussing exportation of our xsl based site to prepare migrating to Drupal. Can't wait to give it a go. Hope to see you again next year in ATL.
