User group meeting

UPDATE: This event has been moved to 12/19 so to not conflict with the Aten Design Group holiday party scheduled for 12/12. We courage everyone to attend both events!

It's time for the next Drupal DevOps meetup at the NEWMEDIA Denver offices in lodo. For those that missed the last presentation on Linode stack scripts, you can view the recorded video here http://vimeo.com/79456994. The presentation at this meetup will also be recorded, but we highly recommend that you to attend in order to ask questions and get assistance in setting up these tools so you can start using them now.

The presentation this month will focus on using Chef attributes and template files. One of the major benefits of a tool like Chef is the ability to provision servers and deploy applications in a reproducible way. But what happens when you want to introduce a little (or a lot of) variation in the configurations while still using one set of cookbooks?

One of the easiest ways to get started with this is to start overriding the default attributes that are exposed within the template files of each recipe. Here you get the best of both worlds, allowing you to work from a solid set of defaults and then tuning it to meet the specific requirements of each node. Need more flexibility? Then you may find yourself needing to create your own custom templates.

As always food and beverages will be provided. Doors open at 6:00pm with the presentation starting at 6:30pm. See ya there!

PS. To get the most out of this, be sure to bring your laptop and download https://github.com/cyberswat/drupal-lamp so you can start testing these ideas out, ask questions, and get help from others.

Wish I could make it in

Wish I could make it in person for this. Is there a way to join via video chat?

We will screencast the

We will screencast the presentation as we did the linode stackscript one and make it available as quickly after the meeting as we can. It's not quite as good as being there, but it is helpful for those that can not make it.

We'll start exploring the option of making it more real time and interactive and work it into the format. Unfortunately, I can't promise anything more than the screencast for this particular meeting, but that is an excellent suggestion. Thanks.

Here's the registration

The video of tonights meetup

The video of tonights meetup is at https://vimeo.com/82347887 ... sorry about the minor echo in the first part of it. This is our first real attempt at broadcasting these interactively. We will get better at it. Lots of good information in the video regarding why we are motivated to do this in the first place.

Feedback is appreciated.

Adding myself and sharing the

Adding myself and sharing the info to other people around.

Thanks!

Thanks Ricardo ... not sure

Thanks Ricardo ... not sure what we will be able to teach the masters, like yourself, but it should be good conversation either way.

The video/audio recording linked above is a good start ... it also leaves room for improvement. There are moments of disconnect between what is being displayed in the video and the audio conversation. I suspect that we will get better at this as we go.

The next one will happen on January 9th ... I'll be updating topics, descriptions soon. http://www.meetup.com/drupal-colorado/events/155279922/
