The Crop Registry is a curated registry of online ISU crop knowledge collections (websites, databases, other) populated by the community.

Given a URL the site will discover its metadata and screenshot, then prompt the user to continue to provide another layer of non-discoverable metadata. It is this additional metadata provided by the community that gives the site greater indexing than keyword search alone. Of course the primary navigation is Solr faceted search.

It's far from finished and other services will be built on top of this, I have lots of plans. But it has value already, as is.

I will walk you through the Solr integration, the extensive taxonomy and the custom services we have already built. Plus some funny business with after_build.

Thursday, March 13 7p - 9p. Room 8 Curtiss Hall, Iowa State University

LOCATION

We'll be meeting in Room 8, Curtiss Hall at Iowa State University (Google Map: http://g.co/maps/a7pzb ). Construction is now complete and the east entrance to Curtiss hall is now open. If you enter via the east door you will go all the way back, go up one level and turn right until the end of the north wing.

As always, the first hour of the meeting is open discussion/question time. If you have a question, or would like to bounce ideas around with others, please come and share!

Please do sign up so you get a reminder the day before!

See you there!
