About Greater Los Angeles Drupal

With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world.

Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010, and now organize a large number of events in the area. Our signature events include the Greater Los Angeles Drupal Camp (GLADCamp, the Drupal Job Fairs and the Downtown Drupal, San Gabriel Valley Drupal, Hollywood Drupal and High Performance Drupal meetups.

Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.

Attending Drupal events in the Greater Los Angeles Area is one of the best ways to meet and talk with other Drupaleros and we encourage you to attend as many meetings and special events as you'd like. Whether it's to find solutions to problems you've been having, sharing something you've learned or just meeting interesting like-minded people, the Greater Los Angeles Drupal events are an essential resource for Drupal professionals and hobbyists alike.

If you aren't already a member of Greater Los Angeles Drupal, it's easy to join our community. Our community calendar is on our "Events" tab on our home page at http://groups.drupal.org/node/219129

We proudly participate in the California Drupal Travelers Program, which aims to connect businesses and community members who are visiting the area with our local community and events. This is a friendly reminder

This is a friendly reminder that tonight's meetup starts promptly at 7pm.

Here's our agenda for the evening:

   https://groups.drupal.org/node/418538#agenda

Our shared notes for this meeting are in Google Docs:

To attend via Zoom video conference, see:

We've had a pretty big number of RSVPs and an even larger number of participants in the Doodle poll. I can't wait to see everyone at Droplabs and / or on the Zoom video conference!

Meeting notes and recap

christefano's picture

This was a good meeting with over a dozen participants. Thanks to everyone who attended!

Our meeting notes in the Google Doc don't really show what happened, so I'll write this up for anyone who is interested.

We had intros, discussed the new "show and tell" meeting format for the Downtown Drupal meetup, talked about the upcoming Drupal boot camp at Droplabs (which just turned 3!), and featured all of our new sponsors and shared assets and resources, including our new Zoom account.

The Zoom video conferencing didn't work out too well but Paul and I figured out what went wrong so it doesn't happen again (neither of us had logged in as the meeting host, so the meeting was cut short prematurely).

Here's info about two of the biggest agenda items:

First, we agreed that it's just too difficult to find the GLAD site here on Drupal Groups (everyone either uses a search engine or types in the old, inaccurate 'dtla' path alias) and we'll be consolidating our efforts on Drupal.LA.

The Drupal.LA website will be our main "launching point" that everyone can go to and have a kind of dashboard of activity, including discussions on Drupal Groups, videos on Vimeo, bits of news on Twitter and Facebook, etc.

Second, we came to an agreement that while we will have quarterly events, we'll be waiting this quarter out and our first Commerce Camp in Q3. The dates are still being worked out and I've already begun coordinating with Commerce Guys.

From experience I can say that scheduling events in Q3 and Q4 are tricky (we're rubbing up against DrupalCamp LA, BADCamp and the holidays in November / December) and we may need an additional planning meeting to figure everything out.

The only item on the agenda that wasn't discussed was #3, which was about who's new and who's dropped off the organizers list. I'd like to do a roll call at our next organizers meeting and revise our organizers list so it accurately represents the group leadership.

What's next? The action items I gathered were:

  • We'll be having a barn raising and code sprint for Drupal.LA
  • Droplabs is having its 3-year anniversary party soon — stay tuned!
  • The rest of 2014 still needs to be scheduled
  • There will be a roll call at the next organizers meetup
