One of the biggest gaps in Drupal development ecosystem is client-side feature and behavior testing. We have Simpletest for Drupal 7 and Simpletest with ever-growing unit test coverage in Drupal 8. But the client-side code lacks appreciable test coverage.

We have already made considerable progress towards the goal of complete front end test coverage. Over months and years of discussions, we have settled on Behat as the testing framework and Gherkin as the language to describe the feature testing scenarios.

The history of that discussion can be found in the issue Use Behat and through its linked issues. grasmash also has a function sandbox implementation for Drupal 8 using Behat.

At DrupalCon Austin, we plan to spend the Sunday and Monday of the pre-sprint days to gather and focus on completing the Behat integration. The goal coming out of Austin is to have a functioning front end testing framework committed to Drupal 8 so that developers can write Gherkin scenarios against core modules.

If this work interests you, please sign up for our BDD sprint here: https://docs.google.com/a/acquia.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlRKD0XsivA1dE...

We need folks who have experience with Behat, Gherkin, step definitions and describing features.
