Hello ! (english version after the french text)

==================

I'd like to organise the next meeting in Geneva, the 4th Wednesday of january (27/1). Here's my idea : We'll meet at 18h30 in a class / conference room, to talk / present / share subjects around Drupal, and at about 20h00 we'll move to the pub across the street. I can book the conference room in rue hans-wisdorf http://map.search.ch/geneve/rue-hans-wilsdorf ). There's free Wi-Fi in all locations.

More details here : http://groups.drupal.org/node/39682#comment-117720

Cheers,

GBaudoin

Super! Merci pour

Super!

Ok for a presentation

dsnoeck's picture

I can prepare a presentation about how to stay away from the database for staging and deployment project. I don't have all answer as I'm working on that for the very first time, but I have a good start point.

Imaging & staging/production sounds good to me

Gerald Mengisen's picture

In the imaging area, I'd be curious to hear which photo gallery solutions people use; I'm about to select one and there are so many to choose from.

As for the staging and

patchak's picture

As for the staging and deployment solutions : how about a presentation of the Features module, and how it could be used in a deployment context? I could also show a small presentation about Aegir and how to deploy Drupal sites automatically ;)

BTW, it would be interesting to maybe have some official decision of what the sessions will be, cause I see that we can all get there with many ideas, but no real organization on who does what?? How could that work? Who wants to be the charismatic leader who decides? ;)

Staging and deployment solution

dsnoeck's picture

Features module is just a part of the solution. There is also a lot of other functions to let us configure the site programmatically, like the menu definition, adding a 2nd language or enabling others blocks.

I agree with patchak that we have to organize the sessions. If we have 1h30 available that we have to choose for 2 or 3 presentations, not more.

Leadership ?

netteo's picture

Eric

Yeah ! I'll list the

gbaudoin's picture

Yeah ! I'll list the proposals in the first post.

Decision

zzolo's picture

I'll take leadership and decide. Here's my thoughts:

20min: Images by ??
This will be good for site builders

20min: Features by patchak
This will be good for advanced site builders.

20min: Environment Management by dsnoeck
This will be a good post-Features presentation and goes into advanced things.

This leaves plenty of time to talk and transition between presentations and gives enough time to present the topic, and people can ask questions later on.

Heya... I never really used

patchak's picture

Heya... I never really used Features, so don't count me in for a presentation!!! I could do about image handling or Aegir, tho... ;)

Revision, then: 20min: Images

Revision, then:

20min: Images by patchak
This will be good for site builders.

20min: Environment Management by dsnoeck
This will be a good advanced topic.

Time limits dont need to be exact, but maybe someone wants to do another 20min presentation. Or, we could do a Q+A session for 20min?

20min is short

dsnoeck's picture

Regarding my experience, 20 min is really short for a presentation. I'm sure that I will use at least 30 min to 40 min !

I am very open to whatever.

zzolo's picture

I am very open to whatever. I was more just trying to provide a decision so that people have time to prepare. Maybe 30min for each presentation? That leaves plenty of time in case things go over time, anyway.

presentations

dbu's picture

i think more than two presentations might overload my capacity of coping with new stuff :-)

i would propose 20 minutes presentation and then discussion of 10-15 minutes. this leaves us time to have a beer together and free discussion...

staging and deployment solutions

mkalbere's picture

I'm really interested by seeing your solutions, could it be the second presentation ... I'll be a bit late ~19h

(note that the meeting,

zzolo's picture

(note that the meeting, non-beer time is set at 1:30h, so 2 30m presentations would leave plenty of time for questions and discussions, and introductions. We probably won't get into the sessions until 19h-ish)

So, how are people feeling about this? @dsnoeck, are you comfortable with 30 minutes? do you want more? @patchak, do you still want to do a presentation on images? If time needs to be filled, I can do a presentation on OpenLayers or whatever; but just need time to prepare.

Cheers. I'm excited about the Drupal meetup.

Ok for me

30 min is fine for me.

Merci à tous pour votre

gbaudoin's picture

Jean-Luc

thanks guillaume!

dbu's picture

thanks for organising this meeting. i was impressed by the huge number of participants!

i realized at the beer and burgers that quite a few people speak mainly english. maybe they where to shy to ask with the huge crowd around, but i feel we should do future presentations in english. (asking in french if people do not understand french is kind of funny anyways :-P

if somebody can propose a meeting place that is less military than this time, i would prefer that. but hey, at least it was a place that was big enough for the crowd - i don't want to complain, just to suggest an improvement ;-)

Prochain meet-up

Kian's picture

A+

Nouveau post pour cette idée

netteo's picture

Hello,

dsnoeck's Presentation

zzolo's picture

I have just uploaded dsnoeck (Damien) great presentation on production to server workflow. Though I may have not quite understood what he was saying, I can support that his ideas of keeping changes is code allows for a very stable and sustainable development workflow.
