Sprint topics

What can I expect from sprinting with you?

  • Get up to speed with the Drupal 8 and dive into coding new patterns
  • See how far you can get with the much improved site building tools in Drupal 8
  • Submit your first Drupal patch as a contributor
  • Help out in a Drupal core initiative
  • Discuss hard problems face-to-face with other experienced Drupalistas
  • A sprint place with enough food and drinks to get things done
  • Be your own client and have fun :)

Who can contribute?

Coders, designers, front-end developers, designers, project managers, user experience experts, clients, basically anyone who wants to improve Drupal, are welcome to the sprints.

Regardless of your knowledge level, if you have built a site in Drupal, you can contribute and are warmly welcomed.

What can I work on?

We will split into groups and work on Drupal core issues. Bring your laptop. For new folks: you can get a head start also by making an account on Drupal.org, setting up your dev environment (https://www.drupal.org/dev-env) and developers can install git before coming and git clone Drupal 8 core.

A great way to get started with contributing to Drupal core is to get involved with an initiative. We'll have local folks present with knowledge about Multilingual, Rules, CMI etc. Also check out the Drupal core initiatives and topics!

The following sprint topics have been proposed already:

  • Work on Drupal 8 core bugs
  • Multilingual D8MI, TMGMT
  • #d8rules: porting actions, conditions to Drupal 8
  • Media
  • Bartik (remotely with Emma)
  • ...

Our active topics with TMGMT / Media and more

A quick update on some of our activities at MD Systems:

TMGMT is back at speed and being updated against latest core HEAD. The project is well progressed as an initial port, but lacks key features such as config translation, missing local translator, and we want to make the project more and more mature. After we have frozen some APIs in D7, we are highly open to overhaul them and remove limiting issues. Also there's room for localisation dreams. ;-)

Regarding Media, we have pushed File Entity to a pretty good level. We have Entity Embed that can put entities in a WYSIWYG nicely with settings. Our next step here is to push the Entity Browser. Specifically, a widget for entity / file reference fields to allow inline selection and editing of the referenced entities. This all will allow nice selection, upload and inline metadata management.

There was huge progress also with Monitoring that is getting more and more mature... More and more ideas come up in this area..
And we have moved Past (logging) and Simplenews to d.o and are in issue queue driven contribution mode. With current speed, Simplenews will become an awesome newsletter tool in D8 far outperforming what he previously had.

We are looking forward to share details with you and collaborate.

I look forward to helping with Drupal 8 core, but I might also want to take a look at TMGMT and/or Rules.

I can probably also help mentoring newbies with backend stuff.

Hi everyone! 23 people signed

Hi everyone!

23 people signed up in already to sprint with us tomorrow Saturday and Sunday. We'll have a great mix of experts, intermediate and newcomers to work on Drupal 8. Registration isn't closed yet, but please make sure to sign-up using the spreadsheet, so we'll know how much coffee, snacks and food we should prepare :)

Tasks to work on will range from getting up to speed with Drupal 8, installing the current dev version and reviewing patches to dive into initiatives like Front-end, #d8rules, Multilingual, TMGMT, Media and UX.

Michael & me will be happy to kick things off with a quick overview on what's exciting about Drupal 8 and we'll mentor newcomers to get their development set up properly.

We are excited to collaborate with many folks from the Drupal community and are especially excited about having various companies send their employees to sprint with us, including MD Systems, TestingTime, Unic AG, Polytechna AG, Globonet GmbH, Getunik AG.

Amazee Labs is happy to host and we already thank for sponsoring Lunch/Dinner to get us through the sprinting days.

See you tomorrow, 9am at our office
Förrlibuckstrasse 30, 8005 Zürich
