I participated with a team last year and we built showthegap.org (on Drupal off course) which used data from different sources to create awareness of the gap between indigenous and not indigenous populations in Australia. We won 4 categories including best overall social inclusion hack nationally and for NSW we won best example of social change app.
I am putting together a team for this year too. We already have a UX person, a data miner and a site builder/videographer (myself). We are currently looking for a front end and a back end Drupal developers to complete the team.
We are again going to focus on building something that tries to address some type of social issue. The categories are announced on the Friday night when the event starts and the website/app can be built between then and Sunday afternoon.
