OpenMusic-a network of Drupal based social music communities

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

Only local images are allowed.
OpenMusic is intended to become a Drupal installation profile to build social music-based communities -myspace style- that connect to each other. Some initial issues have been discussed at Openmusic:a barter Social Network for Musicians, Bands and Fans

For starters we discuss the many aspects of the OpenMusic project, starting from basic functionality inherent to a singular music band website, tossing in whatever innovations might help music artists in organization, promotion and the transitional scene of music distribution. We will discuss in parallel how to create a fertile ground for cross pollination and collaboration of bands/artists with fans within the contexts of a social community and of course within the context of a network of such communities.
That's going to be fun!

Audio Player and Playlists

I have started to build a drupal music site and i have spent so much time trying to figure what modules to use. I considered the unstable "Audio" module but decided since it is not updated. I want my users (local artists) to be able to upload their music and sometimes a whole album (which will include album art, lyrics). And then display a discography page like this MyPlay heavenly goodness here --> http://myplay.com/music/david-cook/david-cook

So far:
I have created 3 content types:
-Artist (with Content Profile module)
-Album: [reference_artist]

Named relations between Nodes, how can it be done?

Hi all,

I hope someone can help out, or at least point me in the right direction. I am working on a project that needs to have a named relation between nodes. I am posting in this group because I think this is a common feature of Band/Artist music sites. I am pretty sure I have gone through all current modules of Drupal a couple of times but none seems to do this out-of-the-box. The closest I have come is the CCK Multireference field.

What I want to achieve something like this:

Review of Drupal Multimedia by Aaron Winborn, Packt Publishing

Drupal is a powerful tool for building amazingly scalable websites quickly and simply. The use of multimedia in Drupal has posed challenges to many users and developers of all abilities. Drupal Multimedia addresses the main questions regarding how to implement video, image, and audio content in a way that is elegant for the developer, as well as the end user. The language of the book is straight to the point, and provides a framework to practice building an assortment of multimedia sites using a variety of modules in the context of test or example sites.

OpenMusic: Uniting networks with content aggregation and distributed authentication

The main idea here is simple:

Unified music charts

All websites build upon the OpenMusic installation profile share one common music chart. Statistics on how many times a Websong or WebLP has been played/downloaded/purchased will be common to all OpenMusic websites. Benefits are apparent: Recognition beyond the boundaries of a single OpenMusic website, promotion and cross-pollination of fans between websites that belong to the OpenMusic network.

Distributed authentication

OpenMusic: WebLP - redefining the way music is sold

Introduction

Now that is a bold statement so I'll try my best to justify it.
OpenMusic should hopefully be the next step in music networks in the sense that it glues things and notions already scattered elsewhere into an integrated music solution, that should eventually comprise a big cohesive network with a potential for redefining common concepts, one of which is the way music is being distributed. It sounds too grandiose, but I say we should aim at the mountain to hit the lake, aim at the moon to hit the mountain, or aim at Mars to hit the stars.

OpenMusic: connecting music artists and fans

Relative data structures

To begin with, the main idea here is:

  • All users have a singular userprofile nodeprofile node, that holds their profile information.
  • All artists have a singular artistprofile nodeprofile node that simultaneously is an organic group node. This gives the ability to each artist to hold subscribers. More about that later!
  • Each music band is also an organic group node holding subscribers.

OpenMusic: user registration & profile information

User registration is one of the elements that greatly affect a web site's user base. Having a lengthy, indiscreet registration form thrown into our user's face right in front of the door foreshadows an even worst experience when registered. Social networks need to get indiscreet by asking all of these personal questions, but it is safer to do so when they have a firm hold on the user and that is when the user passes through registration(we've got his email!).

Outlining the features of OpenMusic

Welcome everybody!
In this first post and the subsequent ones I would like to provide an outline for the basic features of the OpenMusic network, the ones that I already have in mind and the ones that are yet to come. Each feature will be briefly summarized here while all discussion will be taking place in feature specific posts.
Thank you for your interest!
