Drupal Global Training Days is an initiative of the Drupal Association. The association partners with companies around the world to provide introductory Drupal training. My company, SPI, sent me as the instructor for the Drupal training day held at the Larry R. Jackson public library in Lakeland on February 5. Three people attended.

We did the half day “What Is Drupal?” workshop. First we looked at different types of Web sites and apps made with Drupal. I then gave a demo of Drupal 8, followed by an overview of how the Drupal community works and the resources available to new users. Each of the attendees had to create a drupal.org account to sign up for the training, so they were already members of the Drupal community.

After the demo, I shared my experience in becoming a Drupal engineer along with tips on how to build a career by participating in the Drupal community. Each attendee then created a Drupal site on Pantheon, and we discussed what they would like to do with Drupal. I look forward to seeing what they create.

SPI is rapidly expanding its Drupal services, and we look forward to continuing our involvement in Drupal community events.
