Call for Lightning Talks

This month we are again putting out a call for themed lightning talks. Volunteers get between 5 to 10 minutes to present a talk. We are looking for talks on the following topics:

Get off the Island: Intergrating Drupal with other Techonologies

There is a lot that Drupal can accomplish out of the box. But that does not mean it is a one size fits all tool, there are times when a different system, technology or services is more equipped to deliver functionality. Thanks to the flexibility drupal has as a platform, it can connect and integrate a wide variety of other tools and technologies, instead of having to reinvent the wheel. This month we want to walk the bridge off the Drupal island and hear about how you use other technologies, frameworks and libraries along side Drupal. Some questions we'd like to see answer:

  • What is an example of a time you've incorporated 3rd party tools into Drupal?
  • What other libraries have you added to Drupal to extend its capabilities?
  • What difficulties have you run into when incorporating another framework with Drupal?
  • How do you decide if you should use Drupal or another system for a project?
  • What advantages does Drupal 8 provide with integrating with other services?
  • Drupal as an API? how have you utilized that?
  • Decoupled front-end frameworks and Drupal, how does someone get started?
  • What is another framework besides Drupal that you like to use? What are the differences?

If you have an idea for a lightning talk on the topic of search, sign up by leaving a comment below. Perhaps your idea will inspire others.

General Lightning Talks

Along with our themed presentations we will have a call for general lightning talks. This is an open floor to ask questions, present recent work or lead other Drupal discussions. No preparation is required.

Drupal Games

Based on the popularity last month, through out the night we will again be playing some Drupal themed games to inspire and prompt conversations.

Off topic, but would like to present on git internals

eporama's picture

I have a presentation that I think would be of interest to some at this meetup. It's a small primer about git internals. Target audience is people who've used git and believe they know what they're doing, but aren't 100% sure how it works underneath. This demo shows building up a git commit from it's individual internal pieces and how the .git directory is structured.

I would also be glad to talk about a drupal site we built at Acquia which uses google calendar, shift planning, twilio, and some other libraries to talk with other APIs.

I can also talk about the benefits and/or troubles of using a full library like simplesamlphp with Drupal.

I can also sit quietly and listen if we have enough speakers ;-)

Git++ SimpleSAMLphp++

I would be happy to know a little about git internals. I am not sure how useful it will be, but I am sure you will enlighten us.

Single sign-on (SSO) is needed on a lot of projects, and it is not an easy thing to get right. I know there is a Drupal module to integrate the SimpleSAMLphp library, but I have no idea what the pitfalls are. (I see that previous versions of the module for D7 are no longer supported, and the current branch is in alpha for both D7 and D8.)

Single Sign on - broken on groups.drupal.org

This has been broken on http://groups.drupal.org for a long time. I have reported it but have not seen a fix.
If you are not logged in and go to http://groups.drupal.org and attempt to log in after submission of the form you get sent to a 404 page. This is discouraging for new users and old. Anyone knowledgeable care to take a peek?

Tor Hidden Service Site

We recently built a Tor hidden service proxy for a publishing client, who wanted to allow secure / anonymous access to their site for end users. I'd love to share the setup :-)
