Media

I'd like to talk about the state of Media handling in D8. Let's discuss what you get out of the box with 8.3, and how it can be extended with Media Entity and Entity Browser.

Probably a 30 min discussion, any experience with media fields or usage welcome!

Good idea

That's a great idea, but I think a discussion about media handling in Drupal could, and probably should, take most of the meeting, since there's a lot to go over. We could do that, along with a short (15-minute) discussion about DrupalCon. What do you think?

This sounds great

I think it would be nice to hear about the advances in media handling

Meeting tonight!

At tonight's user group meeting, we'll be discussing working with media (such as images, video, tweets, audio, etc.) in Drupal 8.

Drupal has long been criticized for its poor native media management functionality, especially when compared with WordPress. The Media Initiative (https://www.drupal.org/node/2786785), announced by Dries at DrupaCon New Orleans last year, aims to address this deficiency by providing more robust support for media in Drupal core, along with a solid API for contributed modules to extend its functionality.

At DrupalCon Baltimore last month, there was a session about the current state of the Media Initiative (https://www.drupal.org/node/2786785), which we can use as a starting point for discussing existing contributed solutions and the plans for Drupal core.

I forgot to mention this tutorial about reusable media in Drupal 8:

Media is in core now

Media was just committed to core 8.4.x: https://www.drupal.org/node/2831274

Terrific

That's terrific news. Note that what the contributed module called "media bundle" is now called "media type" in core.
