The UW College of Arts & Sciences has an exciting opportunity for a Drupal developer to contribute to our college-wide web framework for departmental web sites.

This is a unique opportunity to work with a team of creative and energetic web professionals who serve an equally energetic and diverse set of departments. As part of our team, you will create and maintain multiple web sites in Drupal 7 and 8. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively to produce high quality, standards compliant sites that reflect the amazing research, scholarship, and creativity that occurs within the College of Arts & Sciences.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop web sites and web applications that meet the needs of our departments.
  • Support existing users, and working with our web team and visual designers, provide solutions that meet user needs.
  • Perform content migration, and guide departments on content generation and information architecture.
  • Work with a visual designer to create new web page layouts and components; create wireframes, process flow descriptions, and user interface layouts.
  • Test and debug new and existing web features, services, and pages, including mobile or responsive designs.
  • Revise user interface and web site features based on user feedback.
  • Provide training and educate users about best practices for authoring web content.
  • Verify that our web sites comply with current operational procedures and UW policies, including security, privacy and accessibility.
  • Provide routine website upgrades and maintenance as assigned.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of all programs and procedures.
  • Contribute to web strategy discussions, offer solutions, and perform other tasks related to our dynamic and collaborative approach to web development.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, and four years of progressively responsible web developer and/or lead programmer experience in an IT environment with a minimum of 4 years web development and programming, with experience using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, JSON on a LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).

  • Development experience with Drupal 7 and/or Drupal 8; including module development, theming/front end development, and site administration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in building web sites or web-based applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and exceptional decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including team ethic and relationship building.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to respond appropriately to deadline pressures. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED:

  • Experience with any of the following; Git, SASS, RESTful web services, or Amazon Web Services.
  • Demonstrated expertise or education in user interface design, interaction design, and/or information design.
  • Experience with graphic design for the web, including familiarity with graphics software such as Photoshop or Illustrator.
  • Knowledge of IT accessibility issues for users with disabilities; familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices; experience testing for accessibility; and demonstrated ability to design content/applications with accessibility considerations.
  • Experience working in higher education or a large research institution.
