Drupal for K-12 Schools

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

The umbrella group, Drupal in Education, is too broad for the various interests and divisions. Drupal Education BOF groups at DrupalCon SF were stymied by the range of interests and needs, particularly across the basic division of university level and K-12 level. Other divisions included coder vs. user, and learning management vs. organization management. The newly formed LMS (learning management system), was one outcome of these discussions.

The needs for public-facing K-12 school sites, as well as strategies for supporting educational activities, are very different from university contexts, and it is difficult to participate in undifferentiated discussions when "student" and "course" and "teacher" and "grade" have such different deep meanings. Let this group be a place where we can:

  1. Discuss and develop modules of particular interest to K-12 education, like curriculum mapping and Section 508 compliance checklists
  2. Post and discuss case studies of new K-12 school websites, and build a directory of school sites
  3. Provide a space for "Young Drupalers" who are still in school to support each other as they develop their school websites.

Drupal Camp NJ Education BoF

http://www.drupalcampnj.org/ is a Drupal Camp held at an educational institution. In my mind, there had better be a lot of Drupal in education fans there! Planting this flag in the ground to let others know I'm going but mostly to provide an initial discussion thread as to what topics people would like to cover in BoFs at the event.

State of Drupal in education update

Just a quick community note about some momentum in projects that often times directly benefit the drupal edtech community.

LTI is moving along in the community it seems -- http://drupal.org/sandbox/jzornig/1809350

Epub would be an excellent format to support exports to which funnymonkey has some work into that I need to test -- http://drupal.org/project/epub_export

Help with building a forum

Hello there,

I am building a website where I need a Forum for a community and I wanted to extend the Drupal Core Forum's functionality but as I am new to drupal i am getting very confused and so Could anyone help me??? please...

Well I don't know if it is necessary as I have never used Core Forum before so I don't really now what it looks like, but I suppose it comes with the installation.

The forum would need to let people who wants to post content or reply to a thread to have a registered account ie they'd need to log in. However the content will have to be visible to the public.

I thought it might be useful for some edu folks out there.

    Getting Feedback?

I'm finishing up work on a network of sites that will likely be getting a huge amount of incoming users in the coming weeks. One thing I haven't included yet it is a way to provide feedback about issues and problems (I know there must be some :). I could use a simple contact form but I'm wondering some of the best approaches for getting user feedback and handling issues within Drupal. Thoughts?
