Bicycle Transportation Alliance
Web development (PHP/MySql/Drupal) Internship
Application deadline Monday, June 12th

Overview: The Bicycle Transportation Alliance seeks a part-time intern
to assist in the development of a new Bike Commute Challenge
website. This site will leverage the open source Drupal content
management system, which runs on a PHP/MySql platform. Among the
intern?s core responsibilities will be developing the module(s) which
will enable the core site features and integrating them into the rest
of the website. This project is guided by Lev Tsypin (of Level OS;
www.levelos.com) with whom the intern will work closely.

The Bike Commute Challenge is a month-long bike-to-work competition
among Oregon and Washington businesses. The program is run by the BTA,
a non-profit bike advocacy group based in Portland, Oregon. The
Challenge saw 5,000 participants in 2005 visiting the website
regularly to log their bicycling trips and mileages, along with
non-participating visitors. The module built through this internship
will function as a trip-logger for these bicyclists, and, if the
module is successful, it may be exported to other groups nationally or
internationally.

Applicants: The ideal candidate will have successfully completed
coursework and projects using PHP and MySQL and have a working
familiarity with Drupal and html. This opportunity is ideal for a
student looking to build their portfolio or a professional seeking
pro-bono work for a non-profit organization. An interest in promoting
bicycling as a form of transportation and recreation is desirable but
not a requirement.

Term: The intern will work 30-60 hours between June 20th and July
15th, 2006 and 10-20 hours between July 15th and August 1st. The final
product will be completed by July 15th, but some follow-up work may be
required in the latter period to make any necessary fixes. Actual
day-to-day hours are flexible, as is location.

Compensation: This internship is not compensated, but after successful
completion of the project the intern can expect to receive a
credit/link placed on the website and references from the BTA for
future employers or educational institutions. The BTA seeks to provide
a supportive work environment for all employees and interns,
regardless of compensation.

Expectations: The intern must be independent, hard-working,
responsible, and committed to the project deadline. Delivery of the
product by July 15th is central to successful completion of the
internship.

To Apply: Please submit resume and cover letter to Events and Outreach
Director Michelle Poyourow at michelle@bta4bikes.org by 5:00 pm on
Monday, June 12, 2006.
