Revisiting Drupal's Block System

For some time now I've had a sneaking suspicion that the reason so many developers prefer Context over Drupal's block system boils down to developers taking power away from the client's admin. There may be clumsy aspects to blocks, but client's can understand them. This is well illustrated in this excellent post by Randall Knutson.

Context Daylight

Tonights meet up was a little light on people but we were able to get a module built and developed. Basically it provides a new condition for the Context module. The condition is whether or not the sun light is out for a particular location and time zone. As soon as it's bug tested a bit more I'll probably make a release for it. Here's the sandbox:

Is Anybody There?

Nashville Drupalers is set to have a meeting on June 7, 2011. Venue to be announced, so stay tuned for an actual event post.

This will be a reboot and organizational meeting. What do I mean? I mean the purpose of the meeting is to get as much input as we can as to what it will take to kick some life back into y'all and turn you into active, engaged Nashville Drupalers. We'll ask a lot of questions, but the primary answer we're looking for is what it will take to see YOU there. (So you'll have to come and tell us)

Lee Walker (a.k.a mr_scumbag) is presenting a session on "Building an eCommerce site in 2 hours" using Drupal Gardens (http://www.drupalgardens.com), and Cashie (http://www.cashie.biz).

Would like two or more volunteers to attend and participate and then show us what you learned at a Nashville Drupalers meeting in the not too distant future.

I'd go myself but we're having our DrupalCamp postmortem that same evening.

Hope You Didn't Miss DrupalCamp Nashville 2011

DrupalCamp Nashville 2011 was a success. Worst ding we heard was that it should have been two days. If we keep working together, we can make that happen, too!

We got things started with an all day PHP class, taught by Cal Evans, then a Friday night baseball game, with the Nashville Sounds hosting the Albuquerque Isotopes. The Sounds lost, but the weather was fantastic and we had a great time.
