Nashville Drupalers Website Launched

In an effort to enhance the presence of the Drupal platform in the Nashville and surrounding areas, a new website has been launched to help spearhead the development of the Nashville Drupal community.

http://nashvilledrupalers.com

It is my hope that everyone within a 150 mile radius of Nashville will stop by and register.

Starting in the next week, regular Drupal meetings will happen here in the Nashville area. Please take a moment to vote on the date that works best for you!

Nashville Drupal Group will Officially Kickoff at PodCamp Nashville 2009

After many months of planning, the Nashville Drupal Group will officially be kicking off the first week in March during PodCamp Nashville 2009. PodCamp is Nashville’s “un”conference event for podcasters and listeners, bloggers and readers, and anyone interested in new media. Learn more at http://podcampnashville.com.

When: Saturday, March 7, 2009, from 9am to 4pm, with social activities afterward.

Where: Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management - 401 21st Avenue South, Nashville, Tenn.

A session titled "Drupal - Some Assembly Required" will be presented, which will highlight what Drupal is and what it can be used for. More importantly, this presentation will kick off the first session in a 6 week course series highlighting what Drupal can do and if Drupal is right for your project.

This 6 week series will also have some great advanced information for the more experienced Drupalers in town. Each session after PodCamp will be broken into two segments: Basic and Advanced. They will be presented back to back over a 2 hour period once a week. I am considering running this initial course twice a week for the first 6 weeks to make sure that everyone can attend.

Please let me know your thoughts and please feel free to post your ideas regarding topics and discussion points. If you are interested in helping with organizing the Nashville Drupal Group, please drop me a line and let me know! There are some great opportunities in the works for those willing pitch in!

Post from localhost to web server

I installed Drupal locally. Created my website. Set up a web server (Go Daddy) with Drupal. Have the database names and passwords the same both locally and remote. How do I post from localhost to the web server?

I live south of Nashville, just west of Columbia. Is there any training sessions that I can attend? If not is there anyone that can help me get higher on the learning curve? Willing to trade Wine for expertise.

Drupal Nashville Meetup?

Hi. Ok, I just joined the group and so this might be a bit forward -- but how about a Nashville Drupal meetup? I moved to Nashville over a year ago and have, as usual, been buried in software projects the whole time. I'd love to get together with other Drupal developers and users. Any interest? Maybe we could try to design / create something and give back to the larger Drupal community. A module? A handbook? Might be fun?

Drupalcon Boston 2008 Video Encoding Project

UPDATE

If you would like to be involved in the encoding of DV content, please post the following information and we will contact you with login information for the content.

I am hoping that we will be getting started on video transfer this week. If that is the case, encoding should be ready to begin sometime end of next week. Please post the following information in this thread:

  • Your machine(s) specs - processor/memory/OS
  • Your internet connection specs - up and down
  • How many hours per week you can devote to encoding
  • Do you have the ability to edit DV content prior to encoding - this is primarily to trim beginning and end of video along with boosting gain if needed.

Exciting news for the Nashville Drupal Group

Some of the members here know that I currently live about 60 minutes outside of Nashville and because of this, my ability to really lead the Nashville Drupal Group has been a bit lax. Well I have good news. Our family is moving to the Hermitage area in late March! This means that I will be able to take on a much more active role in promoting Drupal in the Nashville area. I have high hopes for making the Nashville Drupal Group an very active community in the coming year.

Display RSS feed in a block

I am needing to display an rss feed from ebay into a block. I can do it with springwidgets (you can see it at my test site http://bumpmyblog.com) where the feed is displayed in flash, but the feed doesn't format correctly. Is there a way to use "Views" to display the contents of an rss feed in a block? I have used the leech module in the past to turn rss feeds into nodes. Would my best option be to use that and then use views to display the content of the page into the block? Has anyone else done this before, and if so what route did you take?

Thanks
