Creating a budget system for ASMEucm

Looking into creating a way to handle the ASMEucm club budget through the website. Would be overly greatful of any insight anyone can provide about if the current idea is the most efficient way to handle this. Basically creating a 'budget item' content type, with each budget item being its own node, then using views calc to create montly budget sheets (and maybe yearly if at all possible).
