Virtual meetup research from DrupalCon Seattle community summit
Hey everybody,
On Tuesday of DrupalCon Seattle week I attended the Community Summit. One of the (literal) roundtable discussions I was involved with was for virtual meetups. I was going email a braindump directly to Adam Varn (the current coordinator of Florida's upcoming virtual meetup initiative), but I figured it would be more valuable to post it here to gather (hopefully) additional feedback.

Hey everybody,
We're going to have a Drupal meetup in Brevard for the first time in forever! This meetup will be the first of the newly-organized (thanks, Adam Varn!) Florida Drupal meetups that will be broadcast via Zoom.
Each month, a different geographic area of Florida will have an in-person meetup and broadcast it via Zoom (link will be posted here prior to the meetup).
I'll be presenting "11 tips to start your Drupal project right" at this meetup.
Following the meetup, we'll be heading to Ryan's Pizza for dinner.
Hope to see everyone there!

Drupal 8 version of popular_tags released (keep your vocabularies tight!)
Hi all,
Just wanted to let y'all know that Brooke Heaton and I have just released Drupal 8 version of the popular_tags module. It is very helpful to sites that want to encourage editors to converge upon a smaller set of frequently used tags, rather than a huge set of infrequently used tags.

Hey everybody,
Coming off yet another successful DrupalCamp Florida (thank you, volunteers!), a few of us were talking about how we can best reinvest some of the leftover funds we have from the camp back intp the community.
Perhaps the most important thing we can do is help grow and strengthen the Florida Drupal community.
With this in mind, we're happy to (re-)announce that if you are a Florida Drupal meetup organizer, you can request reimbursement for expenses to help grow and strengthen your local community.
We're willing to pay for things like:

Here's a quick summary of where we'd love some additional help:

Over the past month or so, a few of us have been discussing the possibility of having Florida DrupalCamp 2016 at the Stetson University campus in Celebration. There was a possibility that it would be open to us, but the situation has changed and they are no longer interested in hosting the event.
DrupalCamp Atlanta is coming up next month (October 16-17, 2015) and it would be great if we could announce our dates and venue at that time.

FLDC15 Planning kick-off
Seeing how we're behind the 8-ball a little bit in planning FLDC15, Mike Herchel, Dennis Solis, and I just had a quick call about how best to proceed. The call was open to anyone paying attention in the #drupal-florida IRC channel.
Based on a number of factors, we decided to pursue Florida Technical College (FTC) as the venue for next year's camp. If available, this will greatly simplify the planning: we know them, they know us.
