Need someone to shed light on tuning a Mercury install
Performance Group: please don't kill me for this post. I've been learning a lot about Drupal as of late. I'm an ex-Windows server admin, so jumping into LAMP and Drupal has been a little overwhelming.
I've got Mercury running on a Linode with 1GB of RAM right now. Need advice on where to go to read up on what to do next. My site is done and I know that Apache, MySQL, Varnish, Pressflow....all of that stuff needs tuning. My site will be 100% authenticated users.
Not afraid to read the docs, just need help in locating the magic place the good ones are kept.

I am having a huge difference in performance in a page refresh from a single client for the same version of Drupal (6.20) between a fresh install of Drupal and the same version but with a lot of extra modules downloaded and enabled.
The cpu we are using is an intel Xeon quad core (though we are only using 2 cores in our VM). It is an E5345 processor with 8MB of L2 cache, a clock speed of 2.33GHz and FSB speed of 1333MHz.
For a fresh install of Drupal: we see a load on a single core of about 9-10% for about 1 – 1.5 seconds from both IE and Firefox clients

Can a pull based CDN be used inplace of shared file system for multiple webnodes?
If you have multiple webnodes , you need some kind of shared filesystem to sync uploaded files, static files etc.
Instead, what if you use a pull based CDN system. So all your files can be served from cdn1.yourdomain.com and all webnodes point to CDN.
the benefits are
1) You don't need to worry about managing a shared file system
2) You also get a free frontend to server static files.
This looks like a much tempting option than shared file system. Do you agree? Or there are gotchas I am not thinking through?

Multi-VM Performance Tuning
Our production environment takes roughly 7 secs to fully render, of which it doesn't start rending until 3.4 secs. So rather than attempting all the great information listed here we built an identical Staging environment with the same exact setup as production. I will include our AB stats along with all the configuration information in hope that some of you might be able to point me in the right direction.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
