How is the world activity map on the redesigned drupal.org homepage made?

I imagine your blog post is fairly accurate, and my money is on a custom query in the drupalorg module without views being involved at all.

-I am going to add something very similar to one of our sites in about a month or so after I tackle some higher priority tasks, but I am fairly certain I can replicate it without problems. After I do, Ill post back here and give the down low.
